Are You Waiting Too Long to Start Your Job Search?

Have you ever told yourself: ?? “I’ll start after the holidays.” ?? “I’ll wait until finals are over.” ?? “I’ll focus on job hunting after graduation.”

Sounds familiar? The reality is, while you're waiting, others are already moving forward.

Let’s look at the data—January to March is the peak hiring season for the architecture industry, but many companies start accepting applications as early as December. By the time the holidays are over, some of the best opportunities are already gone, and latecomers face much tougher competition. Many students graduating in 2025 have already started their job search back in October.

Why Early Preparation Matters

Job applications aren’t just about sending out resumes. You need to craft a strong resume, portfolio, and cover letter—and these take time. Especially your portfolio, which requires multiple revisions and adjustments tailored to different companies.

Rushing into applications without preparation often leads to missed opportunities. I recently reviewed unsuccessful cases from 2024, and a common mistake was the “let’s just give it a try” approach. Many students simply modified their school projects and sent them out. Six months later? Zero offers.

Why? Because competition has skyrocketed. A single internship opening can now attract 500–1,000 applicants. Those who prepare strategically will always have the upper hand over those who just "try their luck."

January is Your Golden Window

The sooner you start, the better your chances. ? Polish your application materials ? Refine your portfolio ? Reach out to industry professionals ? Identify and target your dream companies

Take it one step at a time, and you’ll see real progress.

That’s it for today! If you’re feeling lost in your job search, follow me—I’ll be sharing more insider tips to help you navigate the process and land your dream job. ??
