Are You Using LinkedIn to Find a New Job? Here's One Thing You Should Know First

Millions of people use LinkedIn to network, grow their professional brand and also to find work. The reason I have a profile on LinkedIn is to help people who are still trying to find the best job or career. The people who want to be happy in the work they do, but they don't know what type of work that is.

If you feel stuck or frustrated with work, life or happiness, then you should follow my profile and read some of my posts and articles.

I recently wrote an article on Medium about the only time I was fired from a job. The reason that story is important to know is because I got fired because I couldn't afford to quit. Have you ever felt that way also?

Have you ever been in a job you couldn't afford to quit? Are you in that job right now?

What I want you to know is that there is good news. But there are a few things you need to know before you start searching for a new job or decide to take a new job.

Over the last two years, I have spoken to thousands of job seekers, from people who have jobs and looking for a new job, to people who are unemployed and looking to get back into the labor market. One thing that everyone has in common is that they all think the new job will be the best opportunity for them.

Here's the problem.

Unless you have developed a vision for your life and you know the path you are meant to walk, then every job you take will always feel "wrong." And no amount of money you make will make it feel right.

It might seem cliche, but this is 100% accurate: "Money doesn't buy happiness."

The only reason I got fired from my job was because I gave my bosses the opportunity to fire me. I stayed way longer than I should have and my co-workers talked openly about it. They were counting the days that I stayed. The previous 10 people hired for my position had quit in less than 3 months after being hired. I had stayed more than 9 months.

I needed the money, but money does not buy happiness because I hated that job, hated my bosses and didn't want to get up in the morning and go to work.

If you want to find the perfect job for you, then figure out your vision first.

Thus if you are looking for a new job, then pay close attention.

Here's what I suggest you do:

  1. What makes you happy?
  2. What do you wish you could get paid doing?

The reason people end up in bad jobs working for bad bosses is because they haven't answered these two fundamental life questions. "If you do what you love, you won't work a day in your life." The truth is that every human being was meant to do a job. We are built to work. The problem is that we also need money. That's why you need to figure out what you want to get paid doing first.

It doesn't work the other way. You can't take a job and then try and figure out what you want to do? This is the reason why I have debated the K12 system for the last 20 years. What we teach kids in school is the wrong message.

Luckily for you, I beat the K12 system and solved that problem. If you search my profile, you will find out that I was one of the first superintendents in America to adopt a 21st century skills curriculum.

And one of the essential skills you need to learn, practice and apply are 21st century leadership skills. I want you to go back to school, but not the kind of you school you think.

What is a leader? A leader is someone who knows where they are going, knows how to get there and knows the next decision they need to make.

Do you have that level of control over your life? Do you know where you are going, how to get there and what's the next decision you need to make?

If you do, then you have 21st century leadership skills. Congrats, because you are one of the few Americans that do. Millions of people are stumbling around trying to figure out what is going on around them.

But what if you don't have 21st century leadership skills? What if you can't answer those 3 Questions? If that's the case, this is why I have a LinkedIn profile. I'm here to help you.

First let me tell you how you can learn 21st century leadership skills, and then I will tell you more about me and my background. So let's get started:

I highly recommend you register for the 21st Century Beginner Leadership 101 Course at Leaf Academy. Leaf Academy is the first online school for 21st century skills in America. Inside the Beginner Leadership 101 Course, you will learn:

  1. The Six Steps of Leadership
  2. Step One is Developing Your Vision
  3. Step Two is Charting a Path to Take
  4. Step Three is Knowing the Next Decision You Should Make

When you take this groundbreaking class, you will stop making decisions you later regret. If you feel trapped like I did in a job you don't like, it's because you made the wrong decision that led you to that place. The truth is that I needed the money because I lost my focus and I made several decisions that didn't work out. So I took this job I hated because I was forced to make that decision.

That also meant, the only way out of that situation was to come back to my leadership skills and figure out where am I going, how do I get there and what's the next decision I need to make.

When you find your true path in life, your stress levels go way down.

When you know how to get there, your anxiety goes away.

And when you know the next decision you need to make, your confidence skyrockets.

About "The School Doc"

If you're new to my articles and profile, then let me introduce myself. Hi, my name is D.Scott Schwartz, M.Ed, but most people call me "The School Doc." The reason I got that nickname is because for the last 20 years of my career, I have been diagnosing school problems like a doctor would.

Leaf Academy and the 21st Century Beginner Leadership 101 Course are two things I developed a long time ago to fix the K12 system. In fact, in 2011, I was one of the first superintendents in America to adopt a 21st century skills curriculum. (the real skills)

That's not the only thing I fixed, but it's the most relevant thing for you on your job search journey.

I am using my LinkedIn profile to help people like you find their true path in life. All I want to do is teach people who feel lost or stuck in life. If you aren't lost or stuck, you don't need me.

But if you don't have a job you like or don't work for the right company, it can throw off your entire balance and happiness. I don't want you to feel like that anymore. And I don't want you to feel like that ever again.

I hope you will register for the 21st Century Leadership Course because I know it will help you. Very soon, I will have Beginner Courses in the other four 21st century skills. But if you want to learn more, follow my profile and also start reading my posts and articles.

Thanks for listening! See you at Leaf Academy!
