Are you getting married in 2017 or 2018?

If so, you will want to take a peek at the following hottest wedding trends we are seeing as we look forward to 2017 and beyond from designers, industry experts and of course brides-to-be.

While things are constantly changing in the wedding industry as unique and creative ideas surface, there are several trends that will be staying around as well.

With the end of the year and engagement season upon us, we share these wedding trends with you as you look for your own wedding inspiration in the year ahead.

ATTIRE

Bridal Gowns

New York’s latest Bridal Fashion Week was held in early October and the latest trends from the runway give us a good indication of bridal gown trends on the rise for 2017.

So what can you expect to see?

Plunging necklines, off the shoulder dresses, flutter sleeves, ruffles, bows, blush and ivory colored or metallic gowns, two-piece crop tops wedding gowns, floral appliques, capes and long trains.

Check out the latest fall 2017 fashion week bridal styles here.

Tuxedos & Suits

Trends as of late for the groom?

Bow ties, various colors of suits and a slim fit.

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

The wedding party you ask…

Floral and mismatched bridesmaid dresses continue in 2017 while groomsmen are starting to wear various mismatched suits and ties as well.

ACCESSORIES

Hair accessories

While floral crowns, headbands and barrettes remain trendy pieces for weddings moving into 2017 there is also the addition of tiara’s coming back into style along with longer veils.

Hair & Makeup

As far as hairstyles; loose braids, beach waves and buns are in.

Eyelash extensions are an ongoing trend.

We will also see more natural and glowing skin, bold brows and glossy lips in the year ahead.

FLORALS

You will see some of the same trends that have been evolving.

Simple, natural and green florals as well as succulents will remain popular.

Garlands, wild flowers, cascading bouquets and centerpieces are become more prevalent.

As well, tall centerpieces with a mix level of height and shapes will be seen.

FOOD & DRINKS

 Food

Mini bites for everything food & dessert related have been on the rise as of late.

Fresh and local trends carry forward as people are still opting for organic and healthier foods.

Family style, self-serve and relaxed meals are the preference at the moment.

There has been the emergence of food and drink pairings, brunches and dramatic glam cakes too.

Cakes

As far as cakes, moving forward you will still see them at least in a smaller version as they are being offered in combination with other desserts.

Trends for cakes being seen include: glam, naked, marbled, metallic, two tiered, watercolor, rustic, monogram, ruffled and bling.

Candy or Dessert Bars

Candy seems to have started to take a backseat as more couples are choosing mini dessert bites for their guests and dessert bars therefore have taken over.

Beverages

Cocktails have become just as important to couples and their guests in recent years.

Tendencies are for fruit or seasonal themed cocktails, having satellite bars, craft beer and tastings.

There is also an increase in gourmet coffee stations and other non-alcoholic drink options.

COLORS & THEMES

 Colors

While metallic, mismatch and neutral colors continue, there is also a movement from soft colors to more bold and bright colors in the upcoming year.

As Pantone describes they are “a Mixture of Vitality, Relaxation and the Great Outdoors”.

See the latest Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2017.

Themes

Several themes resume to take precedence in 2017 while others are emerging.

You will still see the rustic, vintage, romantic, bohemian, garden, barn and fairytale themes.

In addition, there has been a growth towards high drama lighting, modern and industrial, woodland and enchanted forest themes moving forward in 2017, Check out some of these trending theme ideas for 2017.

ATMOSPHERE & DéCOR

 Venues

In the past few years it has become a thing to have a unique wedding location.

This is continuing as well as the rise of destination weddings.

Atmosphere

Again, more relaxed, intimate, cocktail mixer type parties where guests can mix and mingle, with live entertainment are taking precedence.

Disconnected or unplugged ceremonies are on the rise with late night parties remaining common.

Various areas with an assortment of high cocktail tables, lounges and separate seating are in full effect.

You will still see photo booths around, however many are getting more social and creative than in the past.

Décor

You will see more arches with cabana style ones currently being the most popular.

Backdrops, lanterns, candles, long tables, tree and furniture rentals are an ongoing trend as well.

PERSONAL ASPECTS

As weddings continue to be more and more creative, personality aspects and touches are being included making each and every wedding unique to the couple.

Couples are including heritage and culture elements, their love story and other personal touches from a family recipe to monograms.

They are also deciding to incorporate their dog in the wedding ceremony.

First looks and DIY wedding projects are a trend that will be continuing as well. In addition to the bride and groom, a first look with the bride and her father are becoming more common.

FAVORS & GIFTS

 Favors

Rising are charity donations, DIY items, and useful or mutli-purpose décor & favors.

Bridal party gifts

Bridesmaid robes are on the rise.

Other

Bathroom refreshment baskets.

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT

Small bands, strings and live music ceremonies are trending. A mix of having live music and a DJ is on the rise.

PHOTOGRAPHY

First looks before the wedding ceremony, natural and relaxed, black and white, proposals, overhead, different angles, selfies, film, drones and Snapchat geo filters.

The overall trend is for more intimate, non-traditional, less structured, personalized, unique and creative wedding. With unplugged ceremonies and a rise of daytime weddings and brunches.
