Across industries, Human Resource functions are using a combination of these employee engagement disciplines. Build, maintain and grow your employee engagement with this guide of 6 commonly used disciplines.
Employee Engagement: An organisation's approach resulting in the right conditions for all members of the company to: Give their best each day, be committed to their firm's goals and values, be motivated to contribute to organisational success, and improve their self-esteem.
Enablement: Create an environment which supports and enables autonomy. Your hiring process will identify and recruit talent. Set boundaries for talent for which they can perform their role whilst allowing elements of free thinking. This enables a sense of achievement, ownership, accountability and makes staff feel they are vested in your business.
Significance: Teach your teams the significance of their role. Help employees understand their employment is a partnership where they perform a task which cascades into the firm's strategic direction. By giving their role meaning and significance, the role becomes more than just a job.
Temperature: Frequently checking the temperature of staff well being in your office provides the ability to react quickly to issues or concerns before they escalate. It also creates a framework for employees to frequently share, communicate and respond effectively. Set up semi-annual or quarterly Employee Satisfaction Surveys that focuses on random departments and staff.
Expansion: Create an environment where staff can grow and expand on their horizons through clear steps, measures of attainment, promotion and recognition. Identifying a career path motivates employees to perform to a higher level than employees with no sense of direction and a limit to their ambition.
Explanation: Communication is critical. Provide frequent explanations so staff feel informed. Consider the methods of communication. Everyone consumes information differently. Cater to as many of these differences as possible to ensure maximum reach and effectiveness. When surveyed, 78% of staff state communication as an area for corporate improvement.
Motivation: Different people are motivated by different things. Some staff will be motivated by recognition for good performance from their manager. Some may seek accolades from their colleagues whilst others may covet the employee of the month trophy. By understanding what motivates individuals, you can implement a recognition & reward process to recognise, motivate and incentivise continuous best performance.
