DO YOU WRITE WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS? 45 TOOLS FOR EVERY WRITER

Great writers use some of these 45 writing tools. I have categorized them based on their use feel free to add anyone you use even if it is not in the list below.

In case you don't know who I am, here: My name is Echez O'Ford , and I am a senior content writer for Success Zenith. I spend my time in SEO research, writing on different niches, affiliate marketing, and helping start-ups break even.

It is now time to explore the various tools:

Grammar and Spelling:

  1. Grammarly
  2. Hemmingway
  3. prowritinggaid: A comprehensive writing tool that offers grammar and style suggestions.

Word Processing:

  1. Microsoft Word: This needs no introduction. You already know it is a widely used word-processing software for creating and editing documents.
  2. Google Docs: Your go-to place cloud-based document editing tool for collaborative writing.

  1. Evernote
  2. Trello: A project management tool for organizing writing tasks and deadlines.
  3. Ulysses: A writing app for Mac users that offers distraction-free writing and organization features.
  4. Plottr: A visual outlining tool for writers to plan and organize storylines.
  5. Zotero: According to Zotero's home page "Your personal research assistant. Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share research"
  6. MindMeister: A mind-mapping tool for visualizing and organizing ideas and concepts. "With Mindmaster, it all starts with an Idea"
  7. Coggle: A collaborative mind-mapping tool for brainstorming and organizing ideas.
  8. Google Docs: A cloud-based document editing tool for collaborative writing. (check #5 for the link)
  9. Scrivner: A popular writing software for authors that assists with organization and drafting.

Thesaurus and Dictionary:

  1. Thesaurus.com
  2. OneLook Dictionary: An online dictionary for word definitions and usage examples.

Research and Reference:

  1. Open AI's ChatGPT: The craziest thing happening now among writers, if you have not heard about it, it is either you are living under a rock or you are not a writer.
  2. Google Scholar: My favorite search engine for finding scholarly articles and academic research
  3. Readable: If your audience finds it difficult to read your copy, readable is the solution. It is a tool that analyzes writing for readability, grade level, and other metrics.
  4. Paperpile
  5. Google Trends: A tool for exploring popular search trends and topics for writing inspiration.
  6. Google Translate: If your research ever took you to a German or Chinese site, you will appreciate the importance of a tool for translating text to and from different languages for research or writing purposes.
  7. Grammar Girl: You can do with some quick and dirty tips at times. Grammar Girl is a podcast and website that offers grammar tips and writing advice
  8. BibMe: A handy tool for generating citations and bibliographies in different citation styles.
  9. SurferSEO: Extremely powerful writing tool. Puts everything into perspective and in one place. With this alone, you are good to go as a writer.

Writing Enhancement:

  1. Cliche Finder: For when you want a tool that identifies cliches in writing to help improve originality. In this era of AI, originality is the new currency.
  2. CoSchedule Headline Analyzer: If your headline sucks, you need this resource. But how would you know if your headline is terrible if you do not analyze it? Go get CoScheduler now to analyze all your posts and article headlines
  3. Dragon NaturallySpeaking: A speech-to-text software for writers who prefer dictation.
  4. Hemingway App: writing tool that analyzes text for readability and suggests improvements.
  5. Reverso
  6. Whitesmoke
  7. Self-Publishing:
  8. Kindle Direct Publishing: this is a self-publishing platform for writers to publish and sell their books. Find out how How To Start Making Money With Amazon Publishing today.
  9. Reedsy: a platform for connecting writers with professional editors, designers, and marketers.

  11. Publishizer: if you want your writing project to skyrocket, this resource is for you, especially if you are into book writing.

Distraction-Free Writing:

WRITING & FREELANCING TIPS

  1. Scrivener: popular writing software for authors that assists with organization and drafting. I like the bold writing on their home page: "For writing. And writing. And writing."
  2. Freedom: Freedom helps you as a writer to stay focused and minimize distractions during your writing sessions.
  3. Freewrite
  4. Zenpen is your minimalist writing zone, it is free to use, simple, and straight to the point. You may choose to donate to Tim Holman if you find the resource very helpful
  5. Google Docs

Graphic Design:

  1. Canva
  2. Gimp: this is your basic image manipulation resource if you do not like it too techy.
  3. Figma: You need collaboration at times, this is your resource.
  4. Adobe Photoshop

It is important to understand that these categories are based on the primary use or purpose of the writing tools listed.

However, some tools may have multiple functionalities and can be utilized for various purposes depending on the writer's needs, preferences, and skill set.

I will strongly advise you to explore and experiment with different tools to find the ones that work best for your specific writing process and goals.
