You underestimate the power of a week

You underestimate the power of a week

Yesterday, I came across a quote attributed to Nat Friedman: "A week is 2% of the year". That hit me like a punch to the chest. I grabbed my calculator to check the math: 1/52 - sure enough, it’s about 0.02. It's a small figure, but it sparked big thoughts.

At a glance, a week might seem like an insignificant slice of time. But in a high-energy, fast-paced scale-up like ours, where every sprint and every release matters, each week carries weight. Our teams are building, testing, and delivering across multiple products, driving our mission forward. Every sprint, deliverable, and stakeholder touchpoint is a chance to make a real impact. In that context, every week counts.

Practically, a week may feel too short to tackle a big goal. But breaking goals down into weekly actions reveals the tangible steps we can take in these short bursts. When we embrace a week as a meaningful unit of progress, we open ourselves up to incremental improvement, timely course correction, and sharper focus. It's about seeing each week as a chance to adjust, refine, and strengthen our alignment with our broader goals.

If a week is enough to gauge our product's trajectory and delivery speed, then each one presents a chance to place our bets wisely, ensuring our teams are moving forward on the right priorities. Let’s make each week count and not underestimate its value. By fostering a culture where every 2% is seen as a powerful opportunity, we can deliver meaningful impact week by week.

Totally agree! Setting the right goals Is the key IMO. In addition, with the AI sky-rocketing during these years, everything is compressed in a shorted period and we need to keep the pace. How can we do? The human touch! Collaborate, exchange ideas and opinions helps change the point of view and reach the goals!
