If you Treat Employees like they don't make a difference, they won't!

Employees are our greatest asset. Then why do most companies treat employees poorly? Any strategy or business plan relies on motivated and engaged people to make it happen.
One company I worked at, you could work until 7:00pm. And, no one would say a word and no, they didn’t pay any kind of overtime. However, when it was time for annual performance reviews they could list every mistake an employee has made. It was a morale killer. So employees became disengaged. They would come to work on time, do their assigned duties and give nothing extra.

If an employer treats people poorly, they aren’t going to put the same level of effort into what they do. When you have a bunch of employees who refuse to go the extra mile to help a customer or to help the business grow, your company is in trouble. Worse, they will tell others about their experience. If a company seems to have trouble hiring good personnel, it may be time to evaluate how employees are treated after the hire.
Research conducted by Globoforce found 78 percent of workers said they would work harder if their efforts were better recognized and appreciated. Authenticity, respect and being a people builder gets noticed and respected by employees.
Don't take your employees for granted. No one likes to feel undervalued. Companies should always look to reward employees who put in the effort and deliver results. However, this must come from a root of authenticity otherwise employees won't buy into anything you do. It starts with treating employees well. Sometimes it's the little things you do that count the most. Always acknowledge employees efforts and contributions openly. Let them know how much you value them. "People work for money but go the extra mile for praise, recognition and rewards” -Dale Carnegie
A Maritz study in 2010 showed more than 84 percent of employees viewed their company as a great place to work if it had three or more reward and recognition programs in place. Companies that truly care for their employees get a ROI that is immeasurable. The ROI is increased productivity as well as employees being great brand ambassadors. This is priceless!

Your employees know your customers best. They use your internal tools and systems every day. They have the answers on how to improve customer service and your products. They have the solutions on how to improve systems which can save money by driving efficiencies. Rewards, recognition, appreciation goes a long way to keep people engaged and productive.
Most businesses put customers first while employees are just secondary. Employees are the branches of a tree that makes a company grow. In order to remain strong in an industry, employees have to be kept happy. If you want to get the best out of your employees - Treat them them. Demonstrate that you value people and they in turn, will take care of customers.

1 年Here is the thing. When companies label themselves as employee centric and start singing Kumbaya over marshmallows and biscuits you need to understand that such optics are for the gullible. These are the same sorts of things that companies do when they start talking about their "eco friendly" products, or their "socially responsible" procurement, or their "healthy and natural" foods etc. Companies exist to make their owner rich and to that end they will put that is their number one priority. Anything else is simply an enabler for that objective, or a way to circumvent the challenges that public opinion and government intervention impose upon their ability to meet their mercenary goals. Treat your employment engagements as though you were working under contract (because that is exactly what you are doing) and make yourself the CEO of your own personal enterprise. You don't need to register a legal entity to do this because you already are a legal entity (complete with birth certificate). Simply remember that the bottom line is the bottom line in any world where we have free markets and at will employment. Be the sovereign ruler of your own life and not a serf in someone else's agenda.

1 年I am now chosing homelessness over SHIT TOXIC work, and I am loving myself doing this, I am tired of being stuck in an invisible economic underclass in Canada. I hope to freeze to death peacefully this winter somewhere in the mountains of Northern Coastal BC, all because I am no longer willing to be made part of the greed and CLEARLY UNSTOPPABLE overconsumption and well off people generally treating poor people as disposable and fit for abuse, all to still not be able to pay rent or eat decent food, let alone have any joy in life. I would apply for MAID, IF I HAD A FUCKING DOCTOR!!!!! People SAY they care, but they sure don't ever ACT like they do for me. I have 10 years of university education in some of the most advanced courses and areas of study known to humanity, decades of skilled and unskilled work experience, but my only way to live with dignity now is to chose to die in a tent, no problems with homo STUPIDANS. I am not using my mind power's correctly, I guess, such hateful shit people believe.

4 年EEOC Lesson Learned (not another virus story)?A year ago I was happy. I received an above average “Exemplary” score on my yearly review and the maximum bonus amount. Then I became disabled.At first I was thankful because I believed CBRE would be there for me. I reported my condition and corresponding limitations to my supervisor and she seemed supportive. But then nothing happened. There was no follow up, no attempt accommodate my limitations, which were an inability to travel (I won’t go into detail). So this meant no one was covering the required site visits to my remote projects. Unfortunately we had a bad GC on one project. Eventually the local client AVP complained to the head of real estate for our client, the Hartford Insurance Company. They in turn complained to our senior manager that my lack of site visits was unacceptable and he needed to “deal” with my poor performance.That became a dilemma for him because our teams main goal has always been to do whatever we had to do to make the customer happy so we could get a dark green rating. This is where system failed. Instead of letting the client know I had extenuating circumstances our managers decided to let it stand that I had performance issues and that they would discipline me accordingly. I met with my manager and was told the head of real estate was very upset and that I may be terminated. This was extremely upsetting so I contacted HR with my concerns. But nothing changed the pressure increased and now I was trying to do my job, manage a serious illness, and be under the constant fear of termination.I was finally told I had to leave “for my health” even though I wanted to work to the of the year and close out my projects. All I needed was some reasonable accommodations. So with one day notice I was required to turn in my computer and was escorted out of the building in front of my fellow employees. All of which assumed was because of my poor performance. I have been out of work since November and was also denied my year end bonus. Fortunately I kept meticulous records and have now filed a complaint with the EEOC (never thought I would have to) and they agreed it was discrimination and are investigating the matter.Lesson Learned Don’t assume your managers or HR will be there if you become less than a shining star even through no fault of your own. Document everything that does not seem right. Report any instance immediately to compliance. Don’t be surprised if you get no response from any group. Be prepared for retaliation.?I still can’t believe the way I was treated by a company that professes to be employee-centric. Sadly enough I used to ride a shiny red motorcycle now I ride a shiny red electric scooter when I am not using my walker

5 年This is so true of every employment body world wide. Only now, are some employers recognising that a measure of kindness goes a long way to getting the desired outcomes. I have worked more than 50hrs a week since I became an NHS employee because I had wonderful line mangers who understood 'work-life balance' long before it became a buzz word. I never minded going the extra mile because they were always there for me. As far as I am concerned, discontent breeds contempt.?
