Are you too down on yourself? Or too full of yourself? Either one will destroy your chances of earning $200-$300k/year as a tech manager

Here’s your weekly dose of brutal honesty.

Right now, there are hundreds of thousands of tech managers trying to upgrade their careers and earn more money.

And because we’ve talked with thousands of tech managers who feel stuck in the land of career mediocrity, we’ve noticed patterns.

And one of these patterns is Cockiness vs. Self-Criticism.

You see, some tech managers fall into the Cockiness trap.

They’re overconfident and just because they leveled up as an IC with no major challenges, they think the same thing should happen as they try to climb the management ladder.

They don’t have a strong drive to change or learn more because they think everything they do is right.

They even alienate their coworkers and have gotten feedback that they’re not “team players.”

And because of all this, they’re not even close to earning a 10% raise, let alone getting a promotion to senior leadership.

And then there are tech managers who fall on the other end of the spectrum. They fall into the Self-Criticism trap.

They lack confidence and wonder if they’re destined to stay trapped in middle-management land.

They spend as much time as possible trying to level-up their skills b/c they feel like imposters but they rarely, if ever, celebrate their wins.

They keep their heads down for fear of being overly boastful and have gotten feedback that they need to “speak up more often.”

And because of all of this...they’re not even close to earning a 10% raise, let alone getting a promotion to senior leadership.

Now the important question: Which one are you?

Come on now. It’s time for brutal honesty.

All of us fall towards one or the other. (The Self-Criticism trap has been my nemesis for years.)

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that if you come off as a slimy, egotistical know-it-all OR as a self-critical under-confident imposter - you’re not going to tap into your true potential as a tech leader!

If you want to command a premium salary of at least $200k/year, you’ll never get there in a million years if you’re full of cockiness or self-criticism.

The way to get there is to find the middle ground.

To tap into your CONFIDENCE.

To know you can conquer leadership challenges - to have the systems and strategies to power through them - AND to be open to learning new ways of approaching them.

To celebrate your wins with gratitude and humility - while you raise your team up in the process.

To have absolute certainty that you WILL build your dream career b/c you have the support - along with experts in your corner - to overcome every obstacle that you face along the way.

That’s confidence!

But, as I alluded to above, you can’t build it overnight and you can’t build it on your own.

Otherwise, you would have done it already.

I believe you owe it to yourself to start making confidence the #1 priority in your tech career.

What if I told you there was a way you could build your confidence…without ever compromising your integrity?

What if there were a way you could make a massive positive impact as a tech leader, get recognized for that impact …and demonstrate total confidence and certainty the entire time?

Obviously, that’d be really different than what everyone else is doing, right?

Just by displaying a little authentic confidence, you set yourself up for a career and a life of freedom, joy, and massive achievements.

If you want to command a salary of at least $200k/year as a tech manager, and you want to do it while you build your confidence (w/out compromising your integrity)...
