Are you tired of the same old marketing advice? I am.

Are you tired of the same old marketing advice? I am.

I was on a call this morning with an amazing new contact (thanks for the great chat, Melissa Trumble ), and the conversation turned to the crazy number of "marketing bros" that we see here on this platform and others.

Exhausting!

The "bros" aren't all men to be sure -- but they are all offering the exact same advice in nearly every post. It's not even terrible advice, it's just stale:

  1. Post consistently
  2. Engage
  3. DM

If you are just starting out or have never built a LinkedIn strategy - start with this advice. It's an okay place to be in the beginning, but it won't be long before you are ready to build faster, attract attention and new business, and be a thought leader in your space. That's when it is time to think about something new.

So what if you've been there and done that and are ready to do more on and off this platform?

Let's go! Here are a few new ideas that you can implement right away to improve your online visibility. And -- one old one - engage! But do it in a new way -- without simple platitudes of "thanks" or "great advice." Take the time to really move the conversation forward, and you'll get traction on Linkedin.

Check out these tips and maybe even implement one or two:

Use LinkedIn: Beyond Just Networking

LinkedIn is a goldmine for visibility, but most barely scratch the surface of its potential and stick to the old post and forget it. Not you.

Here's how to dig deeper:

  • LinkedIn Events: Think of these as your personal show. Hosting an event (think webinar, short office hours discussion, or live chat) on trending topics within your industry not only positions you as a thought leader but also drives real-time engagement. The intimate format encourages deeper conversations, making your brand memorable.
  • LinkedIn Newsletters: Everyone's writing them (ok, this is one), but how do you make yours stand out? Infuse it with your personality, share insider insights, and, perhaps controversially, challenge the status quo. Your newsletter shouldn't just inform; it should provoke thought and invite discussion.
  • Leverage LinkedIn Polls for Market Research: Before launching a new product or service, use polls to gauge interest and gather feedback. It's a clever way to engage your network while conducting valuable market research.

Try PR with a Personal Touch

PR might feel out of the box for some people, or you might worry that it is too expensive. It can be - but here are some ways you can use PR in your business without hiring an agency.

Traditional PR is about press releases and media coverage, but do it differently and speed up visibility results:

  • Micro-Influencer Collaborations: Partner with micro-influencers in your niche (these are folks in your industry or a complimentary one with between 10,000- 25,000 followers). Their engaged followings can offer more value than broader audiences. A genuine endorsement from them can significantly boost your visibility and credibility.
  • Host Joint Virtual Events: Collaborate with non-competing businesses in your field to host webinars or workshops. This cross-pollination of audiences introduces your brand to potential new followers in a value-packed setting.
  • Expert Roundups on Trending Topics: Curate content featuring insights from various experts on hot industry topics. Share news stories or interesting articles -- and add your take on the content. Not only does this provide diverse perspectives, but it also encourages those featured to share the content, amplifying your reach.

Speeding Up the Process

I get it. We want results, and we want them fast. Here's how to accelerate your efforts:

  • Content Repurposing: Maximize the reach of your best content by repurposing it. A blog post can become a series of LinkedIn posts, an infographic, or even a podcast episode. This approach ensures your message resonates across different mediums and reaches a wider audience.
  • LinkedIn and PR Automation Tools: Tools like Taplio for LinkedIn scheduling and metrics (https://taplio.com/?via=pamela)? and HARO for securing PR opportunities can streamline your efforts. Automation doesn't mean losing the personal touch; it's about efficiency, allowing more time for genuine engagement from you.
  • Engage, Engage, Engage: I say this on repeat! Rapid growth on platforms like LinkedIn comes from not just posting content, but actively engaging with others. Comment on posts, share your insights, and start conversations. The algorithm favors active users, so make your presence known.

Using these strategies requires a blend of creativity, boldness, and a willingness to experiment. By leveraging the power of LinkedIn and innovative PR tactics, you can accelerate your journey to becoming the go-to choice in your industry.

It's time to make the old marketing playbook a thing of the past.
