Are you thinking of selling your window business?

Are you thinking of selling your window business?

The Holy Grail of most business owners, no matter how big their Empire might be, is to build it up, sell it on and then keep as much of the cash as possible.

And that is the proposition of two of the seminars that form the programme of the FIT for Business programme being presented at The FIT Show, which takes place in April this year in Telford.

With two of the team running THE FIT Show having successfully built up and sold on window and door businesses a strong culture of entrepreneurialism and enterprise is endemic at FIT Show HQ…and at the heart of the seminar programme is a series of sessions designed to set others on the way to selling on their businesses – and to keeping most of the proceeds.

John Daly of business advisors RSM will be counselling FIT Show visitors on Exit Planning together with follow-ups on dealing with the tax issues, through sessions on Tuesday and repeated on Wednesday of the event. John learned his craft at Arthur Andersen and now has more than 25 years experience advising on acquisitions and taxation and The FIT Show might just be the fertile corporate stomping ground to achieve your exit ambitions.

Of course on the road to achieving real value from your business will be hard work to achieve every last drop of sales potential and once again our favourite SuperSalesman Paul Clifton will regale his audience on how to lift their businesses from out of the ordinary through the simple expediency of selling more. Taking time out from his national tour Paul always attracts the biggest audiences and these extended daily sessions are bound to be full houses.

Every UK glass and glazing business is subject to a whole raft of regulations and the FIT for Business seminars offer presentations designed to give visitors working snapshots of the mandatory compliance for all window companies as well as guidance through the minefields seemingly laid down purely to trip up the unwary.

Perhaps the most important of these in the current arena are MTCs – Minimum Technical Competence – and their relationship with the Building Regulations. It’s time to stop dragging your feet says FENSA who will also advise on how to become MTC compliant and the consequences of not doing so. Just the one session on the first day so get there early is the advice.

The GGF is in fact out in force throughout the three days of the event and other advice comes forth by way of The New Conservatory Guide for Installers which will include a free copy for every delegate – just the one session on day 2 for that. GGF Technical officer Russell Day partners GGF Conservatory Association Chairman, connie roof veteran Mark Hanson, to deliver this key document.

Another presenter who has earned his spurs the hard way is Alan Burgess, who takes on the task of advising installers how to get around the complexities of Glazing in Conservation Areas. Alan wears the mantle of the GGF’s Traditional Window Group, of which he is the chairman.

Making a return due to the popularity of the subject at the 2014 FIT Show, the often impenetrable depths of social media will once again be plumbed by Sarah Ball, partner in the memorably named Balls2Marketing. Just 30 minutes is all Sarah believes she will need to provide delegates all they need to know, which is alone worth making the journey.

No BS! Is the promise of one presenter who will be making a daily appearance – Alan McLenaghan of US electronic tintable glass producer SageGlass. The BS that Alan promises to remove is actually ‘blinds & shades’ and if the app-controllability of this product is not enough, SageGlass has created what must be one of the most impressive working demos ever installed at a trade show. No less than 32 conventional glass units with a total area of 314 metres2  – in fact the whole of one wall of the hall appropriately housing the Innovation Zone at The FIT Show – will be replaced with SageGlass Lightzone. This extraordinary commitment – which becomes a permanent feature of The International Centre – will allow live demonstrations throughout the FIT Show in addition to capping Alan’s daily seminar presentation.

Divided into four groups of presentations – Industry; Public Sector & industry; Business; and Specification & Design the 2016 FIT for Business Seminars are up-to-the-minute and topical, presenting 22 sessions over three days on key subjects delivered by the foremost experts in their fields. Many presentations are followed by Advice Clinics in which one-to-one sessions with the presenters will be possible, on a first-come, first served basis. Sell your business as a result of tips picked up at The FIT Show and it could be the best day out you every had.

Attendance to all sessions is free of charge to FIT Show visitors. The full programme can be seen at www.fitshow.co.uk/seminars where visitors may also register online to receive regular updates about The FIT Show and for when they visit, smooth their way into the halls and seminars.
