YOU THINK YOU ARE A PROBLEM SOLVER?
Have you ever thought of the repercussions of the steps taken to solve any problem?
Here is a real case scenario I thought would be a good read for everyone
So just in case you did not know, Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) was the capital of India before New Delhi. On December 12th of 1911 capital of India was moved from Calcutta to Delhi by the British administration. This meant a shift of all important offices & officers’ relocation at a large scale.

Delhi in 1911 obviously was not as developed & definitely not ready to serve as the capital of the nation for many reasons & one of the reasons was that it had had wide & long belts of forests. Snakes & other reptiles entering the homes & offices was a common scene. Though Indians were used to handle such instances, British were not. The British came up with an idea to solve this problem for them. Local Delhiites were offered Rs.1 for every dead snake they got & the Delhiites started catching snakes & collected Rs.1 to Rs.5 each day. Easy money, yeah?
British wanted to get rid of the snakes around the offices & homes but Delhiites were Delhiites, they started collecting snakes from the forests, killed 1-3 snakes each day & collect the reward. When the British learnt about this, they immediately stopped the offer & as a result, all the snakes were set free. Snakes now entered the homes & offices more than they did before the offer.
I do not know what happened after that but the point I am trying to make here is that, when one comes up with a solution to any problem it is more important to analyze about the aftermaths, the if’s, buts & other long-term impacts.

10 个月Good read sir! It's a great example of the cobra effect - an attempted solution leads to unintended consequences.
