I had the opportunity of interviewing some individuals for a particular job position alongside three of my colleagues, in the course of the interview I asked one of the interviewee if he was a team player and he blurted out "yes I am a team player" and that prompted me to ask what makes him a team player.
A team player is one who subordinates personal aspirations and works in a coordinated effort with other members of a group or team in striving for a common goal (Webster's dictionary)
An organization is made up of teams (streams/departments/unit) which relate both intra and inter stream. The business development team would have to work with the IT/Web team for regular updates of products and services on the website, and the account/finance team for invoicing, payments for advertisement etc; the trail goes on and on. No department is an island of knowledge . They all work together to achieve a common goal “A successful and productive organization.”
So also in the home the man has his role as a husband, a father, companion, friend etc. The same goes for the woman and the children. Each with responsibilities that must be carried out as a team, working together to achieve a common goal "A happy home"
A team player sees the big picture, he is flexible, open minded to suggestions and ideas from team mates, willing to shoulder and complement the weakness of team members.
A team player does not indulge in self-promotion. He is an active participant putting the team’s objectives above his taking the initiative to get things done.
In whatever institution we find ourselves, there is need for us to be team players, working together for the success of that institution.
The Bible advocates team work in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV) (Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken)
So I put the question to you ARE YOU A TEAM PLAYER? ?#?addingvaluewithevelyn?
