Are You Tapping into Your Superpowers?

Superpowers are more than just strengths—they’re what’s truly extraordinary about you. When you're operating in your ‘Superpower Zone,’ tasks feel effortless, and the rewards are deeply satisfying. It's that special place where you not only excel but also find joy in the process.
For senior salespeople and professionals aiming to advance their careers, identifying, communicating, and using your superpower can set you apart from the crowd. Knowing how to leverage your unique abilities is a clear differentiator in a competitive market.
In my experience, superpowers are best captured as a single word or short phrase. Thinking about some of the most successful salespeople I’ve worked with over the years, common superpowers were perseverance, resourcefulness, connector, empathy, positivity, persuasion, storyteller, or intuition. These are examples of qualities that go beyond skills—they define how you navigate challenges and deliver results.
It took me a long time to identify my own superpower. The journey began a few years ago while preparing for an advisory board meeting. I reached out to those who know me best, and they suggested that my superpower might be planning, organization, or facilitation. I then reflected on years of assessment results that described me as an achiever, driver, strategic thinker, maximizer, disciplined, focused, doer, and arranger.
After mulling over everything, it clicked—my superpower was ‘Execution.’ It wasn't just one trait but a sum greater than its parts. This realization transformed how I approached my work, and it has served me well both personally and professionally. It was empowering and validating when colleagues and clients told me that they counted on my superpower to get projects done and results posted.
What I didn’t realize until later is that every superpower has a ‘shadow side.’ In my case, I sometimes move too quickly to execution, and I can be inflexible. While it’s essential to embrace your superpower, it’s just as important to recognize its potential downsides and learn how to balance both sides.
I encourage you to invest the time in discovering your own superpower. It will be a game-changer throughout your career. And AI can help too. Once you do the foundational work and introspection, ask AI for suggestions of words or short phrases that represent the culmination of all that you uncovered.
