Are you sure you really want what you’re after?

Are you sure you really want what you’re after?

‘Be careful of what you wish for.’ It is a well-known phrase – a warning. It is often taken to mean ‘don’t try’ or ‘careful, you might be disappointed’ and issued forth by well-meaning friends and relations who fear that the achievement of your dreams won’t end well, that you may end up worse off than before. Sadder, because you tried, and feeling foolish because all that effort and work amounted to nothing, compared to what you thought you’d be getting.

This phrase highlights that often what we think is good for us, may possibly be the opposite of what would make us grow stronger, wiser, happier.

I think there is a more subtle meaning to this again – I think it is a reminder for how, despite and in spite of ourselves, we create our circumstances through our habitual thoughts and therefore our habitual actions. It can be extremely hard to be totally truthful to oneself, to have sufficient self-awareness and distance from oneself to gain good perspective and therefore a more objective view of the manner in which we may go about achieving our goals or living our lives.

The real dilemma is how to *know* when one is fooling oneself, or when a friend’s concerns are right, or which advisor has the best solution for your particular desire – which of their ‘secret’ key’s will safely and happily unlock your success and sense of fulfilment.

So, ask yourself these really important questions??

  • How does the ‘wish’ feel inside yourself? Keep quiet long enough and you will know the truth of where this wish is coming from – what does it tell you?
  • How does it feel when you’re warned away – do you spring to defence? Does it trigger a knee-jerk stubbornness to do it anyway, or does it incite extra curiosity in you, a willingness to explore further?
  • What of your advisors – where does their authority come from? What is it about them that makes them worth listening to? How many of them do you work with? Does their collective advice add up to a cohesive single direction, or are you pulled between multiple possible paths and subtleties of direction?

The choice lies with you.

If you’d like to achieve greater success in your life then it is time to take action. It all starts with the first step.?

You absolutely deserve to succeed!
