Are You Sure? ... Explain It To Me

Are You Sure? ... Explain It To Me

I spend a fair amount of my time encouraging people to spend less though I concede as a business model it's a bit different.

When a client rings or emails quite often they don't have a terribly good idea of what they want or need. This is to be expected. I'm an events pro... they usually are not. So the first steps are to ascertain what are the goals of the event and what is the event format.

Understanding of the goals, format, and budget means we can form a partnership committed to the success of the event and not being an employer and a JAS (just another supplier). This gives better outcomes for the client, is more rewarding for me as the magician and builds trust.

What are the aims of your event?

What's worked / not worked in the past?

What would you change from last year?

What do you want your guests to be saying at the event of your event?

Real Examples:

"I'd like a magician for an hour, my budget is £100."

If the budget is inadequate the advice is "don't have a magician, put the money behind the bar". Why? Because a cheap magician can be an expensive mistake.

"There'll be 10 of us at a drinks party, we'd like a magician to perform for 4 hours"

What's the goal? In this case the client didn't really have a goal other than "It will be fun" and there were no VIP's.

Magic is indeed fun but it is like a fine wine. Drinking a glass is amazing, drinking a bottle is nice, drinking a crate....not so much. I recommended up to an hour of close up or a small show.

Now if they were spreading the evening over a meal then several hours may indeed be appropriate. It depends on the event. For example:

"There will be 12 of us for pre-dinner drinks followed by a meal. It's a family celebration and we want to make it special"

Super, tell me about yourself, your wife and your guests, let's customise the magic to you. Is there anyone in particular you'd like something for? Are there any moments that you all know which could be part of a magical call back?

Let's build the energy and melt their minds with some close up magic before the meal, table magic between courses and a show during coffee. There'll be tricks that bring back happy memories, which create new memories, and gives you magical souvenirs to treasure. Together we can build an fantastic celebratory event you'll experience once but relive many times.

"I'd like a magician for 2 hours there will be 700 of us"

That's super, what are the goals of your event? What did you do last year? How well did it work? What are the problems you are trying to solve this year? Are there any VIPs? Be aware it's do-able but rushed and I might not get around every table. Would you consider having a team of entertainers? If you'd like several magicians or a mix of entertainers I can arrange that too.

(These conversations don't have to take a long time to be effective).

" We'd like a magician on our stand to attract customers"

What type of customers are you trying to attract, how are you wanting leads validated, how would you like me to hand off leads to the sales team, is there a company message you want included in the tricks, what did you try last year, what worked and what didn't?

(No review but they've hired me several times both for this and for parties which is lovely).

If you'd like a knowledgeable team member who gives honest advice and isn't just after your money why not give me a call? 07754 583089.
