Do you believe that to be a great leader you need to be a fire fighter, a hero, who is able to come into a challenging situation, make quick decisions, use their authority and turn things around?
Many of us do believe this, I certainly did. It is simply not true, in fact it is deeply unhelpful.
What I have learnt and passionately believe in is that the best leaders take time to develop a vision, design processes and strategies that are clear and flexible and create an empowering high trust environment.
Because surely it's better to have everyone empowered to?spot fires, opportunities to improve, to share ideas and to proactively problem solve.
It will result in more flexible and supportive teams who will thrive in times of change and challenge.
The good news is that if you are kind, big-hearted leader this strategy plays into your authentic strengths. You have everything you need to light fires in others, to care, motivate, listen and inspire. You've just been told that another way is somehow better.
I have a vision where leaders can...?
Stop questioning and second guessing their ability to lead. But instead have confidence in their approach and feel equipped to lead authentically without sacrificing their credibility.
Stop firefighting and feel equipped to help their team take ownership and feel empowered so that they have time to think strategically and don't burn out.
Have effective conversations by communicating clearly and directly without loosing respect.?
