Are You Stumped In The Middle Of A Story?
By Nayanna Chakrbarty
There are times when a writer is lost or uncertain about their storyline.
"The characters should speak for themselves and they should move around in the plot." – a very common advice provided in most writing books and tutorials.
Getting stumped in the middle of a story is not uncommon. The best way to handle this is to let it remain as it is. The more you force yourself and read the beginning, repeatedly, it will only get you frustrated and baffled. Leave the plot alone for a while. Maybe you need a break and think of another angle.
One option is to start another story and see how you can link the two together or have parallel stories running like a flashback. Some writers prefer to start the story from the end. The possibilities are endless. It is your story and you have the freedom to express it in any way you see fit. Make sure that you never allow the initial hurdles to block your creative imagination. It is very easy to give up, but the satisfaction of finishing this incomplete piece will give you the joy that can only be experienced.
You will know what I mean, when you finish one yourself.
