Are you stuck in the trap of "good enough?"

Are you stuck in the trap of "good enough?"

“Take the best that exists and make it better. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough.”- Charles Royce (Co-founder of Rolls-Royce)

It is so, so easy to get lulled into a sense of satisfaction with the status quo. That’s especially true when the current state looks like it’s working well and everyone is content that it’s “good enough.”

Why rock the boat, right? We’re sailing along, getting where we need to go. Trying to change things and make it better could upset the apple cart and wind up throwing a monkey wrench in the works.

Here’s what’s really insidious about that kind of mentality. The better a company gets, the more inclined they are to settle back in that easy-chair of smug satisfaction and keep right on doing what they’ve always done before.

Down deep in their gut, most companies know they can’t stay static forever in the way they do business. But making that leap and deciding when to get up and move keeps getting put off – sometimes after it’s too late to recover from getting gobbled up by hungry competition.

The best way to get over that hurdle and avoid falling into the “comfort trap” is to institute tools and processes that get every single person on the team engaged in Systematic Continuous Improvement as an imbedded part of their regular work routine. Not a one-off activity. Not an open-door policy. Not an occasional flash of inspiration. But part of what every person is expected, encouraged and equipped to do all the time.

Click on the link below, and learn how to make sure you don’t get stuck in “good enough.”
