Are You Stuck? Afraid? Or Both?

Are You Stuck? Afraid? Or Both?

Are you feeling like you are in a rut??Wanting more out of life??Are you in a job you dread??Does it leave you wondering day in and day out if that is all there is??Have you lost your ability to thrive??Are you tired of just surviving at work??Are you going through the motions and living for the weekend??

Do you find yourself blaming others for reasons why you can’t change or advance towards your dreams and desires??Do you blame your company and feel like you could be better if they’d just give you a raise.?Or, maybe you feel like you have hit a wall because there is no room for advancement at your current job.?Ever been at the top of the salary scale for your position??It’s not a fun place to be!?That happened to me many years ago in Nursing.?Even going back to school for a bachelor’s and master’s degree only advanced my paycheck $10,000 a year.?Moving into a different role only brought on longer days that took me farther away from the quality care I wanted to provide. ?I was at a point in life where I was asking myself – Is this all there is??

At the time, I wanted more time with family and needed to continue to focus on taking better care of myself.?I wanted to take my life back.?I told myself I wanted more out of my life.?Was it scary??Heck yes!?So, when I ask the questions, am I really stuck??I was!?Was I afraid to make a change??I was.?It was no longer a question of either or.?I had both!?And, it was OK!?I asked myself what I wanted and what I deserved.?At the time, summer of 2019, I wanted more quality time with my dad who has lived alone since 2008 after my mom died.?I saw him aging and I his time on earth was limited.?I knew that one day I’d be caring for him and leaving Nursing. ?But, I wanted that quality time before then!?Plus, what I was doing wasn’t fulfilling.?I wanted more!

So, what did I do??I made a 2 columned list.?One side was a list of what my old life looked like, and the other side was what my new life would look like.?While it was scary to leave the old life and jump into the new life, I knew that no matter how scary it was, the new life was so much better and in congruence with who I am and what I stand for.

As you know, life gives you clues.?As I was starting my new life and growing my business, I realized that I wasn’t practicing true health care.?I was practicing sick care.?I went to nursing school to help people with more than just medications.?I wanted everyone to live a healthy lifestyle and only need healthcare for those occasional illnesses or the exotic illnesses you’d see on all the medical dramas in the 1970s!?That wasn’t what I was seeing.?I was seeing so many people coming into healthcare with stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse issues, not eating right, not exercising, and certainly not sleeping well at all.?They were all a hot mess, as we say down in the south!?Then, when I read the statistics that 75% of chronic diseases are caused by our lifestyles, I knew I was destined for change to truly help people change their lifestyle and create a healthy lifestyle they’d love for the rest of their life! I’d seen it happen for so many and experienced it myself!???

I was reading an article the other day that hit on some things to consider when making that pivot from feeling stuck to creating a new life.?I wish I had had these points for myself!?Some of them, I had done without knowing!?I share them with you in hopes I can help one person not feel stuck and feel less afraid to hopefully make that transition easier for them.?So here goes!

1.??????Adopt positivity and gratitude into your life!

This is step one with my clients who what to make a change in their lives. ?The blaming and ?complaining needs to stop.?Complaining to others is a way of seeking empathy from others and validates your emotions which will then prevents ?you from changing.

2.??????Be honest with yourself!

Stop pretending everything is out of your control.?Figure out what you like and dislike about yourself and direct yourself towards the things you like.?

3.??????You can choose to change.?You have the power within you!?You have to believe it!

The world is not determining your path!?You are!?The world will not change to fit your dreams.?There will always be something going on.?You can create your life in such a way to minimize the impact or allow you to roll with things that come up!?If you want the world to change, you need to change YOU!?You need to BE the change!?Do you long for a kinder world??Lead with kindness.?Do you want a healthier world??Start with yourself.?Do you hate negativity on social media??How do you show up on social media??Do you add to the negativity??Do you control who you let into your network??Do you hate the gossip and negativity at work??How do you show up at work??Are you right there in the gossip and negativity??Or, do you bring a more mature tone to work?

4.??????Always look forward!?

It is so easy to live in the past.?We may not like it, but it is comfortable.?Conquer your past.?Work through your childhood trauma!?Your feet face forward for a reason!?Look forward and create who you want to be despite what people in your past have told you!?Be unapologetic about where you want to go with your life and if people tell you that you won’t amount to anything or you won’t succeed, prove them wrong! ?And, stop beating yourself up over your past mistakes!?Give yourself grace and move forward and be better for you!?If you walk through life backwards, looking at the past, you will miss out on the brightness shining down on your back! Turn around and face the sun!

5.??????Stop the comparison game.?

This is your own race called life.?You verses You!?Comparing yourself to others does not move you forward.?It holds you back from greatness!?Making comparisons leads you to doubting your abilities and questioning your purpose!?Set small incremental goals for yourself.?When you set your goals too high, you feel like you are failing, and you quit!?Don’t compare yourself to someone that has been doing the same thing longer!?You have no idea of the pitfalls and mistakes they made along the way.?It is great to what to achieve what they have achieved but there are lots of baby steps in-between! Ask them to mentor you and you will learn that they have struggles, too!?

6.?????Give yourself the same kindness that you give to others.

Give yourself the same grace and kindness that you give to others!?We all fail.?No one is perfect.?Perfection is a myth.?It is unattainable.?Be better today than you were yesterday.?Rest your head on the pillow knowing you’ve done your best.?

It is OK to be stuck every now and then.?It happens to all of us. Just be sure not to stay there.?Push through and know that the next day will be better.?Don’t beat yourself up over it! Know your WHY for change because when you have days that don’t go right (and you WILL!), you can remember your why to push through the troubling times.?

Be honest with yourself and don’t doubt your goals and ambitions!?Know your IQ number.?That is IQ and in “I Quit.”?If that number is zero, you will push through the difficult days.?Don’t loose faith in yourself as you find you way forward to create the life you love and deserve!

I hope that if you are going through a time in your life where you feel stuck that you can use these tips to create better days for yourself and your family.?It is certainly worth the effort.?No one wants to leave this earth with regrets!?You have the power!?It is certainly worth the extra effort because you are worth it!?
