Are you struggling to create content? How can a ghostwriter help?

Content is king. To go a step further, consistent content that is fresh and relevant is king. But how, on top of everything else, are you supposed to create timely content regularly to keep building your following and, ultimately, your email list. Your calendar is already full, you already spend too many late nights staying on top of your deliverables, and now we’re adding creating brilliant content to your mix. This is especially a struggle if you don’t enjoy writing.?

It may be time to bring a writer onto your team, often referred to as a ghostwriter, who can create content that aligns with your brand. A ghostwriter is not, necessarily, a sales writer. A ghostwriter focuses on creating content that looks and sounds like you for either a publication (ebook), blog, or newsletter.?

A ghostwriter creates content that sounds like you and is credited to you. A good ghostwriter can capture your voice and may even go a step further and builds an avatar of your target audience – that is, they sound like you in a way that speaks to your client. Sounds pretty compelling!

Now, you may be thinking that another team member means another expense. But, ghostwriters are most often contractors that work on pieces at a time. You may contract them to deliver a certain number of articles a month, but you’re not paying them a salary.?

There are many ways to get started; for example, focus on content you’ve already created that can be repurposed. Suggestions could include:

  • Whitepapers repurposed from being formal to more creative/informational pieces
  • Webinar or podcast recordings you’ve done in the past that could be transcribed and repurposed

Next, think about how you could create topic suggestions for a writer? Such as:

  • Audio recordings where you talk freely about a subject
  • Rough notes that could be pulled together into one cohesive piece
  • A recording in interview format where your writer asks probing questions and gives you the space to just speak passionately about the subject
  • Perhaps you like to write but need help refining it to speak to your client, or your content is too long and needs to be broken down and connected into a variety of logical pieces

What should you look for in a ghostwriter?

Look for someone who loves what they do and knows their limits. Some can work for various clients with multiple backgrounds and styles, and they do so effortlessly. Others lean towards a specific type (conversational versus scholarly, for example), and they’re only a great fit if they write in the style you’re hoping to capture.
