You strong man?
Asked the lady who must have been 5 foot nothing tall (or 150 cm’s).
I didn’t even think about the response and just said “Yes” nodded my head and looked confident in my response.
Subsequently I carried on with my business and then two ladies appeared with this very large Burmese Python.
Before I knew what was going on I found it placed around my neck. I was told to hold onto its head. And then the lady stood back in admiration!!
Personally I don’t mind snakes. I would have been more concerned with a spider believe it or not. But the weight of this creature was phenomenal. My shoulders ached for about 3 days afterwards.
After a short period of time the lady “encouraged” my family in on the act which they certainly didn’t enjoy. Just look at their happy faces….
As you'll see they slowly started to warm to the cold blooded snake. And dare I say it "enjoy" the memory!
It got me thinking, how did I end up in this predicament?
The link to recruitment
It was really obvious. I agreed to something without knowing the full facts.
And today I will link it to being offered a new role and contractual acceptance. Because I have been asked this question a few times recently. At what stage should I hand in my notice?

In short do not hand in your notice until you have read and reviewed the contract of employment asking any clarification questions. And ensuring that you are comfortable with the response(s). Then sign, date and return it making sure that you receive confirmation that it has been received.
Because you may read something which you do not feel comfortable with, for example the repayment of study support.
And whilst many people can’t wait to hand in, especially with the excitement surrounding a new role, dream and chapter you should wait.
Lastly, remember it is a two-way process (and decision) so unless you are 100% happy don’t do it.
My final thoughts
Receiving a job offer is exciting. And for most people they can’t wait to go and tell their boss!
But you have to be selfish by protecting the best interests of you and your family.
So step through each stage with consideration. Celebrate at each stage. And don’t let the excitement force you into accepting a role which you may later regret.
