Are You Still In a 9-6 job ?

Are you still in a 9- 6 job ?

Do you have a side-hustle ?

?Have you started up yet.. or still working for someone ?

...

?This is the main topic you come across and read in every other post on LinkedIn.

?But don’t worry or panic if you haven’t done any of these yet. It seems to be the start of another rat race and starting up of your own because all your peers or friends have done it already.

Don’t fret or lose your sleep over this, if you have a good corporate job and a decent role that pays your bills.

?I’m not against #entrepreneurship, but it should be done when the stage or time is right and when you have enough experience and confidence to generate enough monies to sustain.

Don’t get into a trap JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING.

?You won’t get many big digital start ups yet who are profitable and making monies.. most end up burning investors monies and exit or shut down in few years.?

At a personal level, I meet many young millennials who are into a decent and stable job, yet unhappy only because they haven’t started up yet..

?Atleast this can’t be the goal to jump into the well..

?I have worked for large corporates for over 20 years and trust me I enjoyed every bit of it, inspite of all the ups and downs.

If time reverses, will I do it again ?

?Absolutely yes, without a second thought.. The kind of #exposure, #experience and #network that I have with my corporate experience, wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

I started my venture last year, only when I thought the time was right for me..

?Starting up earlier may work for you in current context, but make sure you have valid reasons to do so and enough funds to sustain for atleast 12 months when you quit.

Job Vs Entrepreneurship – Comparison

?1. Security vs Uncertainty

·??????Corporate Jobs come with the biggest advantage of a fixed pay check at a fixed date.. and that’s also the biggest reason why most people get into comfort zone

·??????Entrepreneurship is?not really for those who cannot survive without a fixed pay check. There may be months of double bonus but also dry months with lean or no income

2. Incremental vs. Exponential

·??????Jobs are?incremental over time. Starting as a fresher and moving on in same org or with job hopping, employees keep moving up the ladder depending on multiple factors like hard work, opportunity and luck.

·??????Entrepreneurship is?not easy. But if worked through patience, it can lead to explosive growth. The explosive growth can give name and fame.

?3. Responsibility vs Passion

·??????Job?is about a regular pattern of KPI’s, meetings, deadlines that come along with growth. Employees have to consistently meet expectations and in turn, get rewarded with promotion.

·??????Starting own venture and following one’s dream is passion. You cannot think about consistency. If you are happy with what you are doing and earning with your start-up.. the dollars and bank balance may not matter.

4. Creation vs. continuation

·??????Entrepreneurship is?about ideas, creations and developing something new. It is also about solving problems in a unique way and targeting opportunities.

·??????Job is?all about the continuation of the same work often done in a much better way for survival.

?5. Additional Benefits

·??????Jobs mostly have defined compensation structure and come with longterm benefits like insurance, pension and provident fund etc.. often underrated

·???????Startups mostly have fancy benefits like ESOPS and even NFLs or other intangible benefits like vacations or freedom

6. Balance of Life and Time commitment

·??????Job?often have fixed working hours and also find enough time for their families.. now that’s a notion and may or may not be true. But as we evolve post covid more and more companies are trying to stick to it

·??????Entrepreneurs being their own boss can decide when to work or take a break. But its not fancy as it may look from far.. When it’s your own work, you tend to work more irrespective of the watch.

7. Risk

·??????Jobs have relatively low risks. Even if you lose your job, you will not lose money. Also, you can get similar jobs.

·??????Entrepreneurship is risky. One could lose all money if not planned properly.

CONCLUSION

Both #entrepreneurs and #employees are significant in this world. It all depends on one’s goals and personality. Both have the potential to be successful in their own way and need not label as either an employee or an entrepreneur to be #happy.

“Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.” – Warren G. Tracy’s student

So the choice is yours and what works for you depending on your stage of life. Choose wisely avoiding comparisons and not driven by what others are doing

The mantra of happiness lies in not running after what others are doing but finding your own enjoyment in what you do and then build on to it. This becomes the mantra of sucess and fame (if you need) and money (how much do you need if you need?).? You can serve the nation and people both with your single employment and as an employer to give jobs to others. Change the way you think about changing the world and then pursue your passion (which can be in routine job as well) and you will find your Ikigai soon!
