Are you a STARTER or a FINISHER?

Are you a STARTER or a FINISHER?

Are you a STARTER or a FINISHER?

Most people fall into one of these two categories. And each laments about not being in the other.

Starters feel like they never finish anything. They constantly beat themselves up about this.

Finishers get lots done but can't get their own ideas off the ground. Sure they're loved at the office. Give them a project and boom, it's done like magic. But Finishers often secretly dream about working on their own ideas. They just don't know how to start.

Which are you? Do you think one is better than the other?

Guess what! The world needs both Starters and Finishers. Once you realize this you can then relax. Understand, you're far from deficient. Maybe even accept you're nearly perfect because you are a whole person with a particular set of skills. You're just not using them to your best advantage.

Here is a little secret. You're as good as you design your life to be.

Meaning, if you're a Starter, then rejoice in your abilities and find the best way to use them. If you're Finisher, same goes for you. Be happy with how you work best and build your life around those skills. It sounds tougher than it is. Read on.

There are at least two ways to take advantage of your innate skills...

1) Partner up! Are you an awesome Finisher, then find an awesome Starter. They will love you for your followthrough and you will be amazed at how they go from zero to one.

2) Play with POV! POV stands for Point Of View. Most people spend their entire life viewing the world from just one point of view; their own. But the brain is powerful and you can easily think about a situation from someone else's point of view. For example, "how would a Rock Star run a business meeting?" or "What would Steve Jobs think about your website?"

These fun questions let you get practical information you can act upon. Imagine what happens if you're a Starter and you ask yourself, "What would a finisher do right now?"  You'll get useful feedback you can jump on. And Finishers can try on a Starters POV by simply asking a question like, "What first step would a Starter take right now?" It works best if you put a real person in your sentences. Your mind loves the additional details it receives when it knows which person is involved.

"What would my Mom (who is an excellent starter) do?" is more valuable to your brain than "What would a generic person I've never met do?"

Just ask the question, your brain knows the answer.

There are other techniques to help you power through your problems. Many techniques leverage what you are good at and side-step what's holding you back. Try them both and see what happens.

I like it, however I wonder if we could consider also a "keeper" personality. I know people who have hard time finishing things either because they don't know how to, or they got kinda attached to the task and wants to keep it going. I personally see myself as a Starter in most of the things I get involved but few things I just want to keep them the way they are.

This is a very pertinent article, but I think a more befitting headline, particularly when it comes to inventing, would be "Are you an inventor, or are you a marketer?".? I say this because most inventors are just like me in that when it comes to marketing we can "talk the talk", but we cannot "walk the walk".? ?If anybody is interested I am seeking an awesome "finisher/marketer" partner, as I have invented an awesome product, called BOX4BLOX (google it).??

I know the feeling. Wanting to move forward but not been able to do so. You look at others, why is it so easy for them. We are all unique with our own special talents. It’s not always easy to find someone to work with. I would love to know are starters extroverts and finishers introverts.
