Are You Spending Your Life Well?

Are You Spending Your Life Well?

We all have a fixed budget of time for our existence here on earth, the clock started ticking the moment we were born, and it's generally not until we start getting older that we realise just how fast the years fly by.

So where does the time go?

Well, these numbers may give you some idea -

Based on a person living to 79 years of age, we spend -

? 26 years asleep

? 11 years at work (based on a full time 50 year career)

? 4.6 years eating

? 235 days in lines and queues (traffic, shops, appointments etc)

? 1.6 years commuting to and from work

? 11 years watching T.V

? 3 years on social media & checking our phone

? 3 years on holidays

? 115 days laughing

? 1.4 years exercising

? 1.3 years being romantic

? 1.8 years socialising with friends and family

It's quite surprising to see how much of our time is used up in certain areas of our life, we tend not to give it too much thought.

When it comes to our professional life, 11 years is a substantial chunk of time we’re spending at work, and according to many polls out there, the biggest majority of people just aren't happy in their job and find it really difficult to get motivated.

3 years on social media & checking our phones, 11 years watching TV, and only 1.8 years socialising with friends and family. This really surprised me.

So, what can we do to ensure we spend our time more wisely? The good news is, nothing difficult.

Here are a few suggestions –

  • Try to be more conscious of how you spend your time and what you allow to take it from you. Ask yourself – Is what I am doing right now creating or adding any real value for me or someone else, or am I wasting my time?
  • Set yourself realistic life goals, they help keep you orientated and provide you with something beneficial to work towards.
  • Have regular check-ins with yourself to see if you are spending your time wisely and make any necessary adjustments if not.
  • Cut back on the TV and social media, it's designed to hypnotise you and suck your life credits away. Don’t let it, switch it off.
  • Remember that every day is a gift and we’re lucky to have it.

2022 will soon be here, so it’s a perfect time to start thinking about how you would like to spend your next 12 months life credits. What dreams or aspirations do you have and how can you attain them? Is it a new job, that family holiday you always wanted, or just spending more time doing the things you love?

Whatever they are, start making some plans, and best of luck in achieving them. The clock is ticking!
