Are you or someone you know dealing with depression? Please watch, share and help us get the word out and get people talking openly about depression – no shame; no stigma!

CBS This Morning To Broadcast Our Journey with Depression Tuesday, July 3rd… We are confirmed for our segment to air in the 8:00 hour!

A message of hope…

A couple of months ago I entered a submission to CBS This Morning’s Note To Self. Two producers reached out to me about my submission. Though my entry wasn’t the final one chosen, those conversations led to CBS asking my son and me if we would be willing to do an interview and talk about our journey with depression. We readily agreed!

For many people, dealing with depression and anxiety is a real and prevalent issue. And so many – especially our teens and young adults - suffer alone in silence because of the shame and stigma that surround these issues. They don’t understand what they are going through and sometimes feel they are the only ones who aren’t just breezing through life without a care in the world.

My son came to us when he was a junior in high school, and told us he’d been suffering for a long time with depression. We had no idea – truly, we are very close to our son and we didn’t see it. I wrote about our journey in a post that was published on GrownandFlown.com and was seen by 90,000 people and counting!

My son, William is now openly talking about depression, and we want to get many more people talking – we want to reach those who think they are alone to tell them they are not – there are many, many people who also deal with this. We want them to know it’s okay to talk about it, and there are people who care and resources to help. Depression does not discriminate – it can happen to anyone…

CBS This Morning sent Mark Strassmann to interview my son, his therapist, my husband, and me – our piece will air on Monday, June 18th.

Mark and his team were fantastic – they understand how personal and sensitive this topic is, and they did a beautiful job talking with us and making us all feel comfortable. We wanted the piece to convey a message of hope for those who are suffering and for my son to be able to share his story - in the hope that it will help others. No need for concern, CBS nailed it!

Thank you to Dear World for getting the conversation started, to Grown and Flown for publishing it and getting the conversation going, for Love What Matters for continuing it and to all the readers who shared it and sent us your messages. And finally thank you to CBS for this opportunity today to broadcast our message – we want everyone to keep talking about depression and to keep listening to those who need help.

My husband and I are so proud of Will – for asking for help, for working so hard through difficult times and for sharing his journey publicly in the hopes that it helps someone else.

Please watch or record our piece and watch with your family and tell everyone you know to watch with theirs – you never know who might need to hear our message and who it might help - so please share and help us get the word out.

Tracy - thank you for sharing your story. We have to be talking about depression and other mental illnesses, not ignoring them. It's no different than other illnesses. You and your family are a blessing to others through your story.?

Hi Tracy. A fellow U Miami mom who is a good friend of mine shared your story. My daughter is 17 and is also very open about her battle with depression and anxiety. I’m so happy to see Will is thriving.. so is Katie, but as you know, it has changed how we “operate”, my reactions to the smallest things, etc. It is a family and life altering disease. I truly appreciate you getting the message out, I do the same but in my smaller arena, FB, but there are so many families struggling because resources are expensive and symptoms hidden. Thank you again for sharing so our kids can have hope.
