YOU ARE THE SOMARE DREAM
You are the Somare Dream
It was indeed a sad period after passing of our Founding Father in Grand Chief Sir Somare.
As soon as he entered politics in 1960s, and moved around visiting his people throughout the country of PNG, he saw our colonial masters treating our citizens in our own land including discrimination, child labour, and segregation. Seeing all this mistreatment, his heart was filled with sorrow and compassion for his people.
Though he was elected by people, and a Member of the House of Assembly, and a Chief Minister, he was given a house in a settlement in Port Moresby. The house in the picture below was the house of a Prime Minister of a Nation.
Not sure what kind of houses other ordinary MPs lived if our PM lived under this kind of roof during the colonial administration. Ordinary citizens are off the list in this sense.
We had not enough doctors, nurses, teachers, pilots, engineers, scientists etc, for independence, and he was aware we were not ready, however he didnt want his people to live as salves in their own land. And He wanted Independence!
He knew he would produce doctors, he knew he would produce pilots, he knew he would produce an educated populace. He saw beyond the horizon! He saw you and I! He saw the rising sun, the bright evening star, you are the sun, you are the bright evening star, he saw you and me!
He wanted his people to suffer for the Short Term for a Long Term gain! And we have overcame and beginning to tap into the Long Term gains now!
Credit to his hard work, diligence, uprightness. He led a few team of patriots to gain independence and set his people free from slavery, oppression and discrimination.
Because of his positive character, he never mentioned those bad things colonial masters did to our people in front of his own eyes! He focused on the positive, forgave and work hard to unify a diverse nation and started the process to develop it.
He was forgiving, he was unity, he was positive, he was a pillar holding together a nation of thousand tribes!
What can we learn from this noble man?
1. Wherever you are and you see a PNGean, do not ignore (osm ol PNG lain lo Brisbane sa mekim, as if em ol graun blo ol na living pretend life). Say hi, greet and tell him/her "you are Somare dream".
2. Share a coke, coffee, spend few dollars, kina, peso, yuan, yen, pound, euro on lunch, a glass of wine, or a bottle of water with another PNGean.
3. Promote Unity among our diverse cultures.
4. Lets forgive, and let go! Let the by-gones be by-gones!
5. Strongest person solve issues by listening and talking to iron out issues. And Somare was a strongest person. Only Weakest person resort to violence!
6. From now on, when you see a PNGean wherever you are, either at VC, Gordons, Boroko, Wabag, Lae, Madang; tell him/her, "Hey You are the Somare Dream".
7. Somare wanted us to be self-reliant. Lets work hard and contribute to the growth of our country while improving our living standards! No one will do for us, we have to do it ourselves!
You are the Somare Dream, Lets Live it! Lets live his dream! Lets carry his legacy of forgiving, unifying, hard-work and respect our country men/women and those around us while fostering good friendships with others.
Thank you Papa Grand Chief Somare! We appreciate you, We LOVE You! Rest Easy Papa!
