Are you a smart school leader?
When I left Chennai in the year 2020, the school I was working at was online. The school continued to work online for another year and then soon there was news of the school asking the teachers/facilitators to join back in person. I knew this was not an option for me anymore because I had left the city for good. But, I was still curious about how the school would work and what would be the best way to manage it.
I knew it was time for me to start looking for work in other areas, but I also knew that I enjoy working as a program coordinator for a school. I had the opportunity to work with amazing educators who are passionate about what they do and I loved being a part of that team.
But I was not sure if the school principal would be open to the idea of me working remotely
I was pleasantly surprised when she said yes! She was very open to the idea of me working remotely and we have been able to work together very well. We have a great working relationship and I can contribute to the school in a very meaningful way.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue working and supporting the school as a remote program coordinator. Bringing national and global programs to the school has always been a passion for me.
Our other initiatives involved finding opportunities for students to volunteer and connect with people in different parts of the world. I was also working on a project that would allow students to get involved in the community through service learning.
There are some school campus initiatives that I have been working on as well. We are always looking for ways to improve the school and make it a better place for our students. Like monitoring food waste in the school canteen or finding ways to reduce the use of paper.
Helping students experience a world outside school and exposing them to new ideas and perspectives is something I am very passionate about.
Working remotely also meant a cut in salary, so I reached out to some schools with my ideas, and sadly schools were very reluctant in this matter. But I often wonder why some school leaders see value in bringing a fresh perspective to schools and are willing to invest in creative programs while others are not.
I think that part of being a smart school leader is being open to new ideas
Many things make a school leader smart. However, the three most important traits of a smart school leader are being able to think strategically
Think Strategically
A smart school leader can think strategically. This means that they can think about the long-term goals of the school and make decisions that will help the school reach those goals. A smart school leader is also able to think about how different decisions will impact the school, both in the short term and in the long term.

Communicate Effectively
A smart school leader is also able to communicate effectively. This means that they can share their vision for the school with others and get them on board with that vision. A smart school leader is also able to listen to what others have to say and consider their input when making decisions.
Build Relationships
Finally, a smart school leader is also able to build relationships. This means that they can connect with others, both inside and outside of the school. A smart school leader is also able to build trust with others, which is essential for effective communication and decision-making.
Open to New Ideas?
A smart school leader is also open to new ideas. This means that they are willing to try new things and implement new programs that will benefit the students.
To be able to look beyond academics
Most of the leaders are stuck with marks and school performance. While it is important, a smart leader also values other aspects of learning such as social and emotional development
If you want to be a school leader that creates a difference, it is important to be open to new ideas, willing to invest in creative programs, and able to see the value in the work that you do. These are just some of the traits that make a smart school leader. By possessing these qualities, you will be able to make a positive impact on the students, staff, and community.
If you are a school leader who sees learning beyond just four walls, then you will understand the value of having someone like me on your team. I bring a lot of experience and knowledge to the table and I am always looking for ways to improve the school and help the students. If you are open to the idea of me working remotely, then I would be more than happy to continue working with you and supporting the school in any way I can.
The program I offer includes?
These programs can be tailored and customized as per the school's needs and decisions. I also help schools participate in various online global programs which can help the school and students get exposure. These programs help in developing leadership skills, public speaking, research skills, and much more.
If you are interested in learning more about the program or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to chat with you and answer any questions that you may have.

2 年It’s really important to meet students where they are and get with the times. We shouldn’t stick to traditional methods anymore. There’s a lot of misunderstanding in education today that needs to be resolved.

2 年Absolutely with you on this. Appreciate this post wholeheartedly Priyanka Modi. I currently teach younger audiences at two institutions and am delighted when they are so eager to learn skills outside their regular school curriculum. I teach super skills such as negotiation and influencing, communication and presentation skills, solution thinking and leadership.
