Are you sick of scumbags flogging boats, caravans and trailers?

I am. We worked hard to buy our wee caravan, but I also know there are heaps of scumbags out there, who would just as soon steal it, or your trailer, or your mates boat, because they know darn well the chance of any meaningful punishment under our laws is unlikely to happen.

I came up with this design some years ago to protect my boat, but as more and more trailer theft happens in New Zealand, maybe it's time we started fighting back?

Sentry Post starts with bracket bolted to your concrete driveway, or inside your garage, then the posts slips over and is secured with a protected pin and padlock. You then secure your tow coupling in place. Someone wanting to flog your trailer will first have to free your tow coupling from the Sentry Post. Then they'll have to figure out how to remove the post as it creates a barrier to them moving your vehicle. I won't guarantee it will stop your pride and joy being stolen but it will do two things crims don't like. 1. It will slow them down and 2. It's going to be noisy to remove. At the very least it's likely to put off your average opportunist crook.

Feedback on this has been great. Most people who have seen it have been supportive and like the concept, and we've already sold our first few. After field testing and feedback we're going to look to "Soft Market" the Sentry Post. Our idea is that an order form will go on our website for sales via Sports Clubs and Schools, and we'll give back $20 for each Sentry Post sold. That's a heap less Chocolate Bars to sell, and a whole lot of towed vehicles in NZ made that bit more secure.
