Are you sick of breaking promises to yourself?
Leon Seibert

Are you sick of breaking promises to yourself?

Did you know that breaking promises to yourself is one of the biggest ways we erode our confidence in ourself?

Do you often behave in a way that you know is unhelpful and then get mad with yourself as you continue to do that?

How do you break the cycle?

This is something that I struggled with over time and something that my self-contract made a real difference with.

When you think about it, you have contracts with lots of other people and organisations.

Contracts create:

·     Clarity

·     Expectations

·     Standards

So why wouldn’t you have one for yourself?

When you do it keeps you on track, avoids the need for validation from anyone else, stops you from ‘shoulding’ all over yourself. Whatever is in your contract will keep you focused on your own standards.

I invite you to take a moment of quiet, to listen to your gut and create some clarity about what you would like in your self-contract.

Only one or two things to start with.

Things that you know are worth doing and that are really important for you to stay in alignment with.

Everything valuable and important in your life started with a decision.

What decision are you making now that you are going to align with?

I now have four things in my self-contract. It has made a real difference, because I know that I cannot renegotiate the terms in the moment when I want to drop my standards.

The only time I can renegotiate my contract is first thing in the morning when I am setting my intentions for the day. That is when my standards are the highest and I am feeling at my best.

This is what your contract could look like

Could this be something that would help you align yourself with a new standard that has been a challenge for you to keep?
