Are You Showing Up to Practice Everyday? Embrace Consistency
Lately, I've been reflecting on the power of consistency in my journey. Through my experiences, the resounding advice I've received is the importance of showing up and taking action. This echoes the central message of the book Atomic Habits, which I've been exploring extensively in a recent podcast. The book emphasizes how small, consistent changes lead to remarkable results – a sentiment akin to John Maxwell's wise words: "We often overestimate what we can accomplish in a day or a week, but we underestimate what we can achieve in a year."
The compound effect is indeed profound. It's like committing to writing one blog post a week, and before you know it, you've penned 30. A recent mentor of mine, Christian Mickelsen, asserts that “success is inevitable under three conditions:
The notion that success is bound to happen if we show up consistently and put in the work resonates deeply with me and reminds me of John Wooden's insight, "When opportunity comes, it's too late to prepare." Unprepared moments tend to haunt us, replaying in our minds for years. We find ourselves wishing we had acted or spoken differently and the way we avoid more of those moments is through practice and preparation.
During a recent practice, I overheard my son's football coach advising the team, "Do it right, now. If you do everything right now, it'll be right in the game." This serves as a powerful reminder: there are no shortcuts to mastery. It stems from practice and unwavering consistency.
But, I get it—consistency can be tough. So, here's my suggestion: start small, make it manageable, and track and celebrate your progress. Keeping track of your journey enables you to witness how far you've come. This visual reminder will serve as motivation to keep playing the game. I've incorporated this approach into my life, and it's made a significant difference in propelling me towards the life I desire. So, take action, then do it again, and again, and again. Yes, I've peppered this post with quotes, but I did warn you – it's a recurring theme in my recent learnings and studies. As a bonus, here are three more quotes to leave you with:
Remember, success is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the power of consistency and watch as it transforms your life.
