"You Should Not Buy A House"?

"You Should Not Buy A House"

Contrary to what most real estate agents, the media, and society will tell you... The "Truth" is that, "home ownership" is not for everyone.

If you are a real estate agent reading this right now, you are probably thinking that I have lost my mind...

But if you are a real estate consumer... Please listen up!

( Disclaimer: If you are working with a licensed real estate agent, this is not a solicitation to earn your business, rather a "truth" talk )

Everyday, I speak to good people on the other end of the phone, and through email that may have great intentions on "buying a home."

However, many can not truly "afford" to buy a home.

Buying a home for many, seems to be a "Right," instead of a "Privilege."

I always "preach" that if you are "not" both "mentally," and "financially," able to buy a home, then you shouldn't...

Yes, "mentally" ready....

"Why do you want to buy a home?"

"Do you really want to move?"

"Do you understand and can comprehend the steps involved?"

"Do you know what you truly want?"

"Are your expectations in line with your bank account?"

...And are you "financially" able...

"Do you have a 20% down payment?" ... that's OK, most don't

"Do you have 6 to 12 months of income in savings?"... that's OK, most don't

"Do you have enough money to pay all your closing costs?" ... that's OK, most don't

And then you wonder why "Most" people are over leveraged in their home and in "debt."

I get it... but don't have to agree with it...

One of my roles as an real estate professional is to "protect" you from "financial” harm...

My role is to not "convince" or "persuade" you to buy a home, just to feed your "ego."

Yes, there are great salespeople out there, that can sell "anything" to "anyone."

I am not one of them...

And for those that don't want the advice...

You can find a real estate agent, that will tell them how easy it is to "knock out a wall" here or there, to add your dream kitchen, or that the backyard is big enough for your "new pool."

Selling the dream... to those that can not truly "afford" it...

The problem is that everyone seems to want the "American Dream."

Everyone is "entitled."

The Government and the Banking System, makes it easy for someone to buy a home...

But, if you are not careful, your "American Dream," can turn into your worst "American Nightmare."

Don't get me wrong... Home Ownership is a beautiful "privilege," when you are both "mentally," and "financially” able to do so...

And, if you only have a 3% down payment, and you are "rolling in" all your closing costs to the loan, or don't have enough money for the home inspection... I will still "protect" and "guide" you...

It is just my job to tell you the "Truth."

And I will never stop doing that...
