Do you lie awake at night worried about cybersecurity?

We have all seen the headlines about companies being hacked and information stolen, haven’t we?

It is a good thing to be worried about security in your business, whether this is physical or cyber. After all, the first step to any solution is understanding that you may have a problem isn’t it??

In a recent article, Forbes quoted research that showed small businesses received 94% of their detected malware via email so with that in mind, here are our top tips on what to look out for in phishing emails:

Think before you click!?File attachments are a great place for criminals to hide viruses or malware, so be wary. Think about who the email is coming from – would they really send you attachments?

Check the sender’s email address?is actually from the company’s mailbox address.

Check the footer information:?This should match the company the email is supposedly coming from.

Unusual URLs:?Hover over any links to check whether they are going to the company’s website.

Check for typing errors:?Using a mixture of upper and lower case in the header or subject line means it is unlikely the email is from a reputable company. The person typing the email may not have good command of the English language so obvious spelling mistakes or bad grammar may be another giveaway.

Too many links or the link is repeated too often:?A phishing email may contain lots of ‘click’ requests.

Don’t click on links,?especially if the email has come from a company you don’t know.

Personal details:?Is the email basically a request for lots of personal information? If you are already dealing with a company, they should have what they need from you.

Always check credentials and go to a company’s website via a search engine, not a link!

Staff training should include what to do in the event of a security alert and how to deal with suspicious emails or activity on company devices. If you are worried about breaches, make sure security is implemented on all your company’s devices as well as the network – PCs, laptops, tablets and phones.

Saturday was "CAPS LOCK DAY"

It can be frustrating if you don't spot that caps lock is on - particularly in passwords as it makes them incorrect.

IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY TYPE SOMETHING IN CAPITALS then you can highlight the text in Word and press Shift + F3 and it will change it.

If you type a name with two capital letters instead of one such as TOr then Word can also automatically correct that for you.?Let me know if you give it a go.
