Hey the Wi-Fi is down!

Let me know if you can relate - like most people that work in the technology industry, I moonlight as the home IT staff. Whether it’s internet, TV, mobile devices, tablets, laptops or, the dreaded printer, if there is a blip in the Wi-Fi or a non-functioning app I hear about it immediately! It doesn’t end with just my immediate family, but it holds true for the extended family as well. The reality is that I don't easily scale and my job gets more difficult with each new app, device and system update. I have adopted some tools that help but it seems like it is never enough and let’s face it, I am a single point of failure, if I am not there, I will have some unhappy customers!

Now take that metaphor to today’s modern IT departments with limited staff to service hundreds or thousands of users – whether it’s users, customers, vendors or partners - any interruption of service or downtime, especially of critical applications like messaging or databases isn’t tolerated and can cost them business and affect their reputation. Compound that with the ever-growing data growth and sprawl, the shift towards data and application-centric environments, life in a multi-cloud world and the pressure to continually innovate the business. The challenges for enterprises today are real, there is a new expectation that IT must deliver Hyper-Availability – across locations, devices and clouds. AND, I am pretty sure there aren’t a ton of new resources or budget coming in to support all of this.

HCI meet IDM.

Recently we at Veeam announced a new joint solution with Cisco; Veeam Availability on Cisco HyperFlex. This new solution brings together the power of Cisco HyperFlex hyper-converged systems with Veeam Availability to deliver an enterprise grade, highly available intelligent data management platform. So what’s different?

To date, Veeam has worked with Cisco HyperFlex through native snapshot integration to provide data availability for HyperFlex data; HyperFlex as the source. With the introduction of Cisco HyperFlex with large from factor drives, Veeam can now utilize HyperFlex as the target for the Veeam backup repository. In fact, all of the Veeam services, the backup manager, proxy servers and repository can efficiently run on the HyperFlex platform and the result is awesome!

The combination of Veeam on HyperFlex means customers get all the benefit of two industry leading vendors from brands they can trust. Now the data protection platform is protected against node or disk failure and Veeam can leverage advanced resiliency features in HyperFlex like failover, clustering and self-healing. Add HyperFlex’s seamless horizontal scaling of storage and throughput and you have an enterprise class solution. Peter McKay, the Co-CEO and President of Veeam calls this “a game changer” and I completely agree!

If you are interested in a highly resilient, Hyper-Availability platform, I suggest looking into Veeam Availability on Cisco HyperFlex. In the meantime, I hope you don't hear "Hey, the WIFI is down!"
