Looking for a safe place

Despite receiving raving reviews of this advice column and having so many women reach out to me saying "Yes, we need this!" I have yet to receive another Dear Homegirl anonymous submission via https://www.abbycornelius.com/dear-homegirl. At first I thought my idea was a flop. No ladies out there need advice.

But then I got an email, followed by another and then a call and yet another and pretty soon I had 5 separate questions from women asking for advice but also asking that I don't share their story, even anonymously. They are so fearful that someone in their organization would read the request and know it was them and confront them.

Some of their situations are unique but most are things I hear from a lot of women and I would love to share their stories to help others. But they are not my stories to share.

So here is my reply to all the women out there who are looking for a safe place.

Dear Looking for a safe place,

I am here for you. I am hear to listen, offer guidance and be a support. I will not share your stories. We all deserve to have a safe place to think, talk and receive support.

Also, you are not alone. There are some things you just can't talk about with your boss or with anyone in your organization. That's okay. But you also still need to talk about them.

I will gladly and openly be your safe place.

As someone who once worked in an environment where I didn't always feel safe to share I get it. So here is my plan...

I am going to keep Dear Homegirl open.

But now you have options.

1. You can select to keep your question entirely confidently and I will respond to you directly and will not share your story.
2. You can select to have your story shared with your anonymous signature. I will provide you with advice and offer it up to the growing community of over 1,000 women who are here to offer their support and advice too.

I will post only as new questions come in but I ask that you support, comment and provide advice to anyone who is able to share their story and I will continue to support those that need a safe place in private.
