Are You in the Right Place to Achieve Your Dreams?

Here is a simple and highly effective test to understand if your working place is right for you. 

You have been in your position for a while now, and you are not excited anymore. Moreover, you feel stuck. 

Life is too short not to chase dreams and do what gets you excited. Now, your boss can help you with that or destroy your desires or motivations.

Here is the test:

Go to your boss NOW and tell him or her:

You: "I feel I have achieved my full potential in my current role, and I don't feel excited anymore. I want to do XYZ as the next stage in my career".

Scenario 1:

Your boss: "That is great that you want to develop yourself further in our company! I have noticed that you are as excited as you used to be about your job. That means we need to do something about that! Before you can step into this role, you need the following skills: A, B, and C. Let us think what projects I can give you to strengthen those capabilities, so would have more chances to get this position quicker".

Test result: Your boss is a real leader! He cares about you and the company. You expressed your interest, and now you can work together to achieve your dream! 

Scenario 2:

Your boss: "Hhhmm... I don't know. You are only four years in the company, and you have only a bachelor's degree. Also, your performance this year is a bit lacking. Try to improve, and let's talk about it again next year at your yearly performance review".

Result: This is the answer the most of the people would unfortunately get. Your boss is not a leader but a KPI slave. You are a pawn for him, and he cares more about his yearly bonus than about you. Leave as soon as you can! Otherwise, you will burn precious years of your life in an unappreciative and unsupportive environment.
