Emotional Hiring Process

About 65% of the recruiters will end up with at least one wrong recruitment. In other words, if there are 100 people going to be placed, 65 candidates will be a mis-fit to either Job requirements or to the organisational culture.

What drives people to perform is the culture from where they belong to, and during the hiring process if the recruiter somehow ignore this fact or get coloured with the overall presentation, chances are bright that the recruitment will be a wrong one.

Another, interesting fact is while hiring centennials or millennials, money plays very vital role, gone are the days where people used to reply to the interviewer’s question asking “How much salary you expect?” and the answer was most standard “As per the norms !” But now people are direct, up front and highly calculative, mostly they keep 2 offer letters in hand while negotiating with the third one. 

To assess the culture therefor becomes utmost important, as person’s real character will come out only when we conduct “Culture Test” during the interview. Competency Based Interview may asses this but that will be limited to the job role, and not in detail. Also, C.B.I. may at times ignore this part and that’s where the chances of wrong hiring start.

If the recruiting manager is expert psychologist he/she will capture the pulses of the candidate, but in all likelihood, we do not keep psychologists in selection panel for all the positions. Hence, the hiring manager must be trained on to see the emotional side, cultural side of the candidate during interview. Psychometric assessment tools are of a great help, but smart candidates have mastered the art of appearing in the psychometrics, and therefor the tool is loosing its edge.

Emotional Hiring therefor is the need of the time. Organisations and the Human Resources Experts must consider this as their key agenda for next decade of growth and must design a robust hiring process.
