What is it going to take to advance your career or take your business to the next level?
Right now is a good time to take a self-inventory and be clear on the value you bring and what may be slowing you down.
Self-inventory is really an ongoing process that requires being connected to your inner voice in a good way. It’s the ability to understand your strengths, know your values and make the types of decisions for yourself that move you forward.
Most of us appear to be connected to the world through our devices and social media but that’s very different than being connected to ourselves.
Self-assessment means taking a look at yourself and developing your own views and cultivating your ability to take a close look at where you are so you can think through your problems and figure out your next steps with clarity.
Here are three action moves to guide you towards an honest self-assessment:
Develop confidence.
Developing confidence will help you to take actions that will advance you and your business or career. The most successful people are those who can manage contradictions in their life and who are aware of but not constrained by their limitations. Confidence is a muscle that needs to continuously be exercised. Don’t stop because something went wrong, anticipate that things will go wrong and know that you have the capacity to figure things out.
Create your own advisory board.
Surround yourself with trusted friends and mentors who will be honest with you about your performance and what areas need improvement. We all doubt ourselves from time to time, but the idea is to simultaneously doubt and trust yourself, this is the core of effective self-assessment. If you find yourself not making the progress you want, it’s time to step back and regroup. Ask yourself, what changes do I need to make to get the results I want.
Stay in action.
Keep going, keep making moves. You can evaluate your success as you go along. You will never be totally prepared or feel 100% ready. You have to meet people, exchange ideas and swap best practices. Don’t get stuck in a cycle of overthinking instead recognize what’s going on in your brain and make a decision to stay in action. Keep what’s working and let go of what’s not.
This may all sound simple, but it's not always easy. Schedule time to talk with me here
