Are you really Being There?

Have you ever been invited to an event and felt uncomfortable or nervous before attending a networking function? You are not alone, In fact most people don't know what to expect when they go out and network. We all know the goal is to meet people and hopefully gain some valuable business contacts that will lead to new sales or new opportunities.
But what if you decided to just Be There to truly learn something about each person? Do you think this would improve your results? I would have to say definitely.
I too have to network and have seen massive differences when I practice Being There vs. when I am more focused on ME.
Since joining this LinkedIn Group several people have asked for FISH! tips. One that I would like to share today is remember people's names! You will be surprised at the impact you can have at an event when you join a group at a networking event and then before leaving that group you take time to thank each person by name.
Yes, I know this does not come easy for everyone. In fact, I am one of those people but practicing to Be There allows me to focus on their name and then I repeat it at least 1-3 times during the conversation, then do this around the group. It is a little tip but one that I find really works for me in connecting and creating new relationships. Practice this and you will be amazed! People will remember you as someone who took the time and cared.
Research has said that there is nothing people like to hear more than their own name. Go for it! Challenge yourself and have fun! I would love to hear what you think. Happy FISH! Friday!
