AI has become a hot topic in the business world, and for good reason. It offers a unique advantage that can revolutionize the way companies operate. But we have to be careful which AI we are using. They are not all built the same.
Think about it like this: AI, when using ChatGPT 3.5 is like a 16-year-old’s brain. It may sometimes lie to you, do weird things, and even hallucinate, but it has the power to provide answers quickly. However, it’s important to note that these quick answers may not always be the best.
Which is why the evolution of AI and different LLMs is so important — and like I was saying at the closing keynote HUG23 event for Personio with fellow tech futarist Tom Cheesewright, you should use GPT4 rather than 3.5. Especially if you are doing things which include a more nuanced outcome.
You wouldn’t let a 12 year old recruit your staff — but kinda sadly enough that’s what people have been doing when using some of the technologies out there.
Just like I said in my talk — we do want to collaborate with AI — we just got to be careful which one we pick for each job. Ai is evolving and quickly…
Evolution in Technology
Just like computers, email, social media, and mobile phones, AI is another evolution in technology. Remember when bosses were resistant to using email, and now they wouldn’t dare operate without it? The same applies to AI. Companies that embrace AI now will be the ones that thrive in the future.
Size doesn’t matter; both large and small businesses can take advantage of AI. Large businesses can create their own AI systems using proprietary data, while small businesses can benefit from code interpreters and customer insights. It’s an exciting time for both companies and individuals, as:
"AI puts the power back into the hands of those who do the work."
Large Language Models: Unlocking the Power of the Internet
When it comes to large language models, it’s like taking all the information from the internet and teaching a machine how to not only understand English but also grasp the underlying concepts. Think of it as a massive compilation of knowledge and insights brought together into one intelligent system. These models, like OpenAI’s famous system, have gathered data from various sources such as Reddit and even unpublished books. It’s no wonder they excel in writing, marketing, psychology, and law.
On the other hand, DeepMind’s model, which was primarily trained on health data, has an exceptional understanding of medical terms and concepts. As for Apple, since they recently embraced artificial intelligence, their datasets will likely differ, giving them a unique edge in their AI capabilities. And Facebook is moving more and more into creating different persona’s — which makes sense with the data sets they have on us too. Which kinda brings us into the concept of data twins and the future of work. Something I chatted about with John Amaechi OBE
Digital Twins: Bringing the Virtual to Reality
Now, let’s talk about the intriguing concept of digital twins. Imagine creating a graphical representation of something that doesn’t even exist in the real world. With digital twins, you can do exactly that. It’s like having a virtual counterpart of a physical object or system. This opens up a world of possibilities, especially when combined with augmented reality.
You can visualize and manipulate objects, troubleshoot potential issues, and even test out different scenarios without any real-world consequences. For example, architects can create digital twins of buildings to optimize designs and identify potential flaws before construction begins.
The fusion of digital twins and augmented reality holds incredible potential for various industries, from manufacturing to healthcare. So, get ready to witness a whole new level of innovation and creativity as these futuristic technologies continue to evolve. And not just for THINGS but for PEOPLE too…
AI: Making Digital Twins and Predicting Behavior
Imagine a world where you could create a digital twin of yourself or even someone else. It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, but with the power of AI, it’s not only possible but within reach. By feeding AI all the information someone has ever written — books, tweets, LinkedIn posts — it can learn to imitate them and simulate their thoughts and actions.
This opens up endless possibilities, from predicting what historical figures might say in certain situations to creating digital twins that can assist with various tasks.
It’s a little eerie, but also incredibly fascinating. It’s something I did for the first edition of my book about public speaking and how to become a great public speaker. Where I “interviewed” great speakers from the past — it made not just for an interesting read but also some very adroit points.
AI: From Poetry to Real Work
When we think of AI, we often think of creative endeavours like writing speeches, poetry and art. But the potential of AI goes far beyond that. It can also handle real work, such as marketing and business decision-making.
Imagine having an AI machine that takes care of your marketing campaigns, analyses data, and makes strategic choices for your business. It’s what I am teaching people at the AI Marketing Course .
Or how about an AI doctor that excels at diagnosing conditions, giving human doctors more time to focus on patient care?
Which is something I talked about at the opening keynote for The Stone Group. AI is not here to replace us, but rather to empower us. It can shoulder the heavy lifting, allowing us to be more human and have more time for the meaningful aspects of our lives.

AI: Enabling Humanity and Bridging Knowledge Gaps
Contrary to the fears and sensationalism surrounding AI, it has the potential to be a powerful enabler of humanity. It can bridge the knowledge and skills gaps we often see in organizations, especially at the top. Leaders can benefit greatly from incorporating AI into their decision-making processes and staying ahead of the curve. Which is what I talked about on Jeremy Blain’s podcast the other week.
Understanding the implications of AI is akin to living in a time when electricity or the printing press was first introduced — the possibilities are vast and transformative. By embracing AI, leaders can harness its positive potential and take their organizations to new heights.
The Importance of Leaders Understanding and Guiding Change in the Face of AI Advancements
As leaders, it is crucial for us to understand the magnitude of change that comes with the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). This is not just a minor technological upgrade; it is a paradigm shift that alters our realm of understanding. Contrary to the belief that people dislike change, individuals actually embrace it. Change is a constant in our lives and as human beings, we constantly grow and evolve.
However, sudden and unpredictable change can be unsettling and that’s where leaders play a pivotal role. We need to equip ourselves with enough knowledge to guide and support our teams through this transformation. We must act as coaches, holding their hands and leading them through the transition. Which is what I also echoed Karen Blackett OBE at the Personio event.
The Consequences of Ignorance
Imagine being in a position where your boss or leader lacks an understanding of AI. This situation is similar to having a boss who didn’t grasp the importance of email or the printing press in the past. The repercussions are serious.
Not only will leaders risk losing valuable team members who seek opportunities elsewhere, but their businesses will also suffer. In today’s fast-paced world, businesses move quickly and leaders who fail to keep up with AI advancements will lose their competitive edge. We are not merely talking about digital transformation; this is a complete paradigm shift. AI has the power to enhance productivity exponentially, sometimes up to ten times more. What we do with that extra time is something I discussed with legend John Amaechi OBE
Conclusion — we are just at the beginning.
This means that businesses can achieve greater efficiency, employees can save time, leaders can start to help more. It might mean that potentially certain roles might become redundant.
For example, marketing manager or content creator — as they become on and the same. As leaders, it is crucial for us to guide our teams through this process of change, alleviating any fears and uncertainties that may arise. We do not want our people to be scared; instead, we must provide understanding and support as we navigate this transformative era.
This is the fifth industrial revolution whether we like it or not. We need to start to help the education sector more and more. Not just to change. But for teachers to change too. We need to help them learn more about AI and how to use it as teachers. And even the curriculum itself so we help the next generation really take advantage of the AI revolution.
