Are You Ready to Quit? Do Just One More

Are You Ready to Quit? Do Just One More

There are lessons we wish we would have learned as a teenager.?

Some are taught, while others are discovered. ?

A few are privileged to have parents, mentors, or coaches who teach these wise nuggets, while others must discover by themselves.?

Many of these lessons are learned in our 20s, others in our 30s, and still others as we age.?

What lessons do you wish you had learned during your teenage years?

I wish I had learned to do just one more when I was ready to quit. I didn't realize until later that this is one of the secrets to succeeding in life, business, career, writing, and any other activity. When a person learns to continue, persisting through the desire to quit, that is the door to incredible production, growth, and insight.?

Instead, the common understanding was to do what you could or work until the job was done. While those are both excellent lessons to live by, adding "just one more" takes the results to a higher level.?

Audacious Results

Recently, I applied this lesson to running.?

I was never a fast or avid runner. I had not run an organized since high school, but shortly before I turned 57, my wife suggested we run a 5k. I quickly agreed.?

She went online and found a "couch to 5k" ?training program. Eager to begin, we laced up our sneakers and started. The program called for running for one minute before walking for one minute. If that was too much, you could run for 15 or 30 seconds and repeat.?

As beginning runners, we naturally got tired and wanted to quit. But when we employed the 'just one more lesson, we progressed to run the 3.12 miles without walking.?

Business Applications?

Sales professionals live by this rule. When tired or frustrated, make one more call.?

Those in Research and Design live by this rule. When frustrated, run the experiment one more time.?

Those in Management, Supervision, or Human Resources live by this rule as they work to improve teambuilding, culture formation, and policy development.?

How have you created your breakthrough by doing 'just one more??
