Are you ready for the interview?

Are you ready for the interview?

If you you've been following my advice and land that coveted media interview? Are you ready? This is your big chance and if you blow it, you might never be invited back.

Have you prepared ahead of time so that you know you will knock it out of the park?

Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Be THE expert: Build a strong foundation of knowledge and experience in the subject area you wish to be considered an expert in. Stay up to date with the latest research, trends, and developments in your field. This will help you provide valuable insights and opinions.
  2. Refine your communication skills: Television appearances require effective communication. Practice expressing your ideas clearly, concisely, and in a manner that engages the audience. Work on your public speaking, articulation, and body language.
  3. Hone your interview skills: Television interviews often have time constraints, so it's important to effectively communicate your main points within a limited timeframe. Practice giving concise and impactful responses. Learn how to handle difficult questions or challenging situations gracefully.
  4. Stay informed about current events: Keep yourself updated on the latest news and current events related to your field. This will allow you to provide relevant and timely insights when appearing on television.
  5. Familiarize yourself with television formats: Understand the different types of television shows and formats where experts are typically featured, such as news programs, talk shows, or panel discussions. Study the format, style, and tone of these shows to adapt your expertise accordingly.
  6. Work with a media coach: Consider working with a media coach who can provide guidance and help you polish your on-camera and speaking skills. They can provide valuable feedback, teach you techniques for effective communication, and assist with your overall media strategy.

These are basic skills that are vital before you land your first interview, and particularly your first television interview.

When I landed my first appearance on ABC I recorded and watched many similar segments to mine so I could see how they liked to do them. When I got in studio I was fully prepared and when I was done the producer said, "The control room loved you. Come back anytime!" THAT is what preparation does.

If you want to learn more and are free today at 11am ET, join me and Cindy Khoury Ashton for a free live training about positioning yourself as the go-to expert and speaking from your power so you crush the interview and get asked back.
