Are You Ready For The Inspiration North One Million Steps Challenge?

Are You Ready For The Inspiration North One Million Steps Challenge?

You may have seen our recent posts about the Inspiration North One Million Steps challenge.

If not, here is the link to all the info you need.

I was reflecting on how this all happened.

Depending on the mission I like to explore LinkedIn to make new connections and start conversations with people.

Sometimes the mission links to growing awareness of our business psychology practice – Insights Business Psychology.

Other times I may be on the search for new and interesting humans that could be on the Inspiration North podcast.

I’d made a connection and one of the suggestions that came up was Ranjit Ghoshal, the founder and CEO of One Million Steps.

“Sounds like a cool business” I said to myself and I sent a message and connection request.

It is coming up to a year now since our first conversation and we have recently spent many hours plotting and bringing to the market an Inspiration North One Million Steps challenge.

This feels like good timing.

I don’t mind admitting that since the 1st of January I have gained 5.2 kilos (which is about 11.5 pounds in old money). And with the lockdown and constant grazing I believe that this is not all lean muscle mass!

So why are we starting a challenge now?

Even with lockdown being somewhat eased in being allowed out, but not out out. Many of us will not be moving about as much as we would be in other times. Even with all those steps back and forth to the fridge and snack cupboard!

So, the aim is to have a means for starting a movement! Literally and figuratively.

Having been in lockdown and missing genuine human connection, I figured that this challenge would bring about a sense of community, with a healthy dose of competition thrown into the mix.

The challenge is to walk 1 million steps in 100 days. This equates to 10,000 steps per day or in total about 500 miles! Michelle and I are competitive so we’re very much looking forward to this! A handy pedometer or the use of Google Fit or Apple Health and the One Million Steps app tracks this all for you. And you have your own fundraising page too.

And ultimately, while getting moving and interacting with others, we are all raising money for a great north east children’s charity called The PIE Project.

Michelle and I are trustees on the board and wanted to do something to help raise awareness and much needed funds. All charities are greatly suffering from events being cancelled and donations drastically dropping. So, we decided to do something about it.

If you have a child of primary school age, imagine giving them an entrepreneurial experience where they have seed money to build a profitable venture. They interview for roles in the team, plan and deliver a product or service, having marketed and sold this themselves. Imagine the skills they are developing to be ready for the future world of work. All profits are kept by the school and they compete with other schools to win a top prize of £2,000.

For more information on the challenge, how it works, what’s involved and the cost visit our website or the Inspiration North One Million Steps sign up page.

Do please share with any friends and family that would be up for the challenge – starts June 15th 2020.

And of course, we welcome all donations if you do not want to take part in the challenge.

Who is up for this?
