You can build a new life.?You have what it takes. You can rise up and reinvent yourself, any time you want to. I know that some of you, for one reason or another, are back at square one.
Things didn’t turn out exactly as you planned.
That’s okay.?You may be down, but you’re not out.?You can rebuild.?You can come back.?It may seem like a big, uphill journey, but I know you have it in you and I want to help.
All you need is a plan.?A path to follow.?A way to get your thoughts together and get headed on the right road again.?Re-establish your momentum and you’ll build a new life for yourself in no time.
5 Steps to Begin to Build a New Life
Once upon a time, my home was destroyed by a five-alarm fire.?True story.?So, I know what it is like when you need to start over.
It is easy to get stuck in the quagmire of overwhelm.
It feels like you have too much to do.?Too many things and too many emotions.?It is a bad combination. You want to shut down.?You want it all to go away.?You wish it were a bad dream.
Been there, got the t-shirt. I understand your situation.?But I love you too much to let you wallow in that mess any longer. It is time to start putting things back together.?It is time to start over.
Here are five steps to help you begin to build life a new:
1.?Let Go of the Past
I can’t emphasize this enough.?You cannot move forward building your new life until you make peace with the past.?It isn’t easy and it doesn’t have to be completely settled, but you have to grieve your losses and decide you are going to go forward in spite of what you have to leave behind, be it a business, a house, a loved one, a relationship, a job or anything else.
I’m not telling you to forget.?I’m not telling you that you won’t still have that hole in your heart.?You may still have a bad day from time-to-time.?That’s okay.?However, slowly, but surely, you need to look to the future. Remember, it’s time used to build a new life.
2.?Develop a Vision for the Future
Before you can build a new life, you must get straight in your head what you want tomorrow to look like.?You need a vision for the future.?Developing a plan for your life can be difficult, I understand that.?But, having a dream or vision for what you want is essential.

Once you have some ideas swirling in your head, it is time to get them down on paper. Nothing has to be written in stone, but getting your thoughts out of your head will help you to organize and clarify them.?This will likely lead to some dream for the future which is the seed you need for a plan to sprout. Start with a Vision Board, hung in your bathroom, so you can see it daily!

3.?Set Realistic Goals
The next step for you to build a new life is converting your vision into an actual plan. You do this by setting goals to move toward your ideal life.?In other words, your vision defines your desired destination.?Your goals are your map for getting there.
SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely.?Make sure your goals follow this model.?Overall, your goals don’t have to put a lot of pressure on you. In fact, if they do, they are probably counterproductive.?However, they should focus you in the right direction and propel you toward your destination.
To get started, I’d recommend creating small goals to begin with to help you achieve early wins and create momentum.?You can read about using incremental changes to improve your life for guidance on how to do this.
4.?Take Action
Okay, hopefully, by now you’ve created a vision for your future and laid out some specific goals to get what you want.?What’s the next step??Taking action!
Having a plan is great, but to build a new life, you must roll up your sleeves and get to work.?The work is your therapy.?It will raise you up out of your doldrums and revive your passion for living, loving and laughing.
Each day, you will make a list of at least three small actions you need to take toward your goals.?You will ask yourself, “What can I do right now to move one tiny, baby step closer to my dream?”?After you’ve got your three things, go do them.?Do not go to bed at night until they are done.?Follow this advice and you’ll have a new life in no time.
5.?Nourish Yourself Along the Way
Finally, you need to attend carefully to yourself through this process.?Eat right, get plenty of rest and celebrate your victories .
You want to push yourself, but don’t ignore your physical and mental needs as you strive to rebuild your life.?That’s a huge mistake.?It will either lead to burnout or sickness – neither of which are good.?You have to pace yourself as all good athletes know to do.?Find your stride and keep plugging away.?Slow and steady wins the race.
It might take you weeks, months or even years to build a new life.?Find ways to nourish yourself along the way.?You need to tend to your motivation, education and relaxation to ensure your success.
