Are you ready to edit your mindset?

I had a bit of a weekend from hell with more thrown at me that past week. One can only describe the events as unfair. Some of that energy spilled into this morning when some preset arrangements went wrong and had to be readjusted. But the show had to go on. As I reflected on the preceding 72 hours, I reminded myself that no one ever said that life would be fair.?
Some years ago, those kinds of challenges would send me into a spin of spiralling negative emotions. As time went on, I realised that it’s not always meant to be smooth sailing in life. Troubles are a sort of culling system. Only those dreams that can withstand the trials of circumstances are the ones that will pass through the fire and gain traction. Like with books, we have to go through a series of mindset edits in order to pass through those trials.
Mindset is something that I also read about in Ian Hatton 's new book, "Lead like Morpheous," in my preparation for his video interview this morning. Our mindset touches on every aspect of our lives. When Ian and Marie-Thérèse Le Roux arrived at the venue this morning, they gave everyone on my team an opportunity to pull out a card from Ian's leadership card desk. Mine focused on “Capacity, Audacity and Tenacity.” It was a timely message for me as I am currently working on upgrading my capacity.
Capacity is never easy at first when you have to scale on your dream. We often use the excuse of time, but in the end, it is about priorities. When we realize this shift can have a big impact, we can decide what to remove or edit in our lives, so that we can grow.?
However, it takes a bit of practice to get that balance right. You have to edit your mindset. I often tell my book coaching clients we have to get past the “seeking permission” stage of our mindset. At school, we have to get permission to speak, permission to go to the bathroom and permission to go home early. I have even heard of teachers reprimanding students for doing another teacher’s homework in their class.
It is no small wonder we are waiting for someone else’s permission to write our book. Does that sound absurd? How often are you waiting for your feelings to be in alignment before you act? If we only ever did things when we felt like doing them, how much positive change would we see in our lives? Books that leave a legacy don’t happen by themselves.??
If you are stuck in that permission stage of your life, start by asking yourself how that mindset serves you.

9 个月Ah wow. Something just "clicked" when I read this. I think we can all learn from you in terms of mindset shifting. On the topic of asking permission, I recently listened to the audio book "Girl, stop apologizing" by Rachel Hollis and she shared so many stories and stats on how we are conditioned to ask permission for everything we do.

9 个月A mindset "edit" is the perfect way to put it for authors, Kim Vermaak! Your take on our conversation is inspiring. It also shows how, as I always say, eloquence is in the audience. The message evolves in each person who receives it in the way they need. There is a certain divine serendipity in this.
