In the opinion of the Think team, our partner organisations, and based on work with clients it appears to be authenticity.

Authenticity is the ability to lead with integrity. Authentic people have self-awareness and a genuine connection with themselves, their value and others.

But how do we discover authentic leadership? What does it really mean to be authentic?

In our experience the majority of people will believe they are authentic, when in reality others may not agree, this is vital in understanding the truth behind the concept.

To be authentic all our behaviours need to be consistent with our values, but so often this may not be the case. Sometimes through lack of awareness about our impact on others and other times through misrepresentation.

By exploring key questions, we can uncover the essence of what makes both individuals and their leaders authentic.

For example:

  • How do we stay true to ourselves, even under pressure?
  • Do leaders walk the talk, especially when faced with tough choices?
  • Are you/they transparent, accountable, and genuinely invested in others’ perspectives?
