Are you ready for Core Web Vitals?
So, Google is rolling out Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor for websites in May 2021 - that's only two months away. It will measure page experience and focus on loading speed, interactivity, stability, security (HTTPS v HTTP) and mobile.
Check how your website is measuring up by logging onto the Google Search Console and look for Tools / Core Web Vitals https://search.google.com/search-console/about
It could be you have nothing to worry about and it's business as usual. However, I ran a report on our B&B website last week. The scores for mobile were not great (46). Desktop wasn't so bad (71). I changed our hosting 2 days ago, which I'd intended to do, this just gave me the kick up the bum I needed. Already the scores have gone up to 61 (mobile) and 92 (desktop). I'll certainly be tinkering around a bit more to get the mobile score in the green. This might be addressing things like font and button size on mobile as well as image sizes and alt descriptions.
It's definitely worth looking into as it may affect how you rank in the long term, plus this is all about the user experience. Nobody likes a slow loading site. If you're in a competitive market you could lose customers.
I don't proclaim to be an expert on this by the way. "Largest Contentful Paint?? What the!?"
But you do need to be across it. If you have a developer, talk to them and make sure your digital house is in order.
If you've put effort into your keywords, copy and content you don't want that to go to waste. Fix up those core vitals ASAP.
