Are You Ready for Change? (Q1 2023 Update)
As we enter the second quarter of 2023, I can't help but think about the changes that are happening around us.
Many successful entrepreneurs are accumulating cash and waiting for investment opportunities. ?At the same time, the world's reserve currency, the dollar, is being challenged, and the news is full of negative headlines about geopolitical tensions, inflation, and economic headwinds.
However, I remain optimistic about the future. Change is inevitable, and it's coming faster than we think. But with change comes the opportunity for growth and progress. I believe that those who are prepared to adapt to these changes will be the ultimate winners.
One significant change that's happening right now is the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the business world. The release of ChatGPT-3, then 3.5 and 4 in rapid succession, along with other AI-powered tools, has sparked excitement and wonder about the possibilities for growth and innovation.
At my companies, we're integrating AI tools into our business processes to increase efficiency and productivity. We know that we'll need less human labor in the future, and we believe that this is a good thing. Technology has always been deflationary while enhancing productivity, and we're excited about the opportunities it presents.
While many people are worried about the future and retreating to their proverbial bunkers, I'm focused on creating companies that can grow during chaotic times. My purpose of helping entrepreneurs become Rich Beyond Money will always be in demand, and I'm confident that we can thrive in any environment.
This year, my EO forum retreat theme is “Dreaming Bigger” - so May 9-12 in Punta Cana I’ll be mapping out an even greater vision for what I can accomplish.?If you have any related exercises, videos, or tools, I’d welcome your suggestions as I’m creating our agenda.
I encourage you to find time to answer: What can you do to ensure that you're ready for whatever the future may hold?

This quarter we successfully closed on our 46th acquisition, acquiring 226 units in Baton Rouge, and went under contract to acquire an 80-unit motel in Brownsville, Texas which we plan to convert into multifamily housing. Additionally, we are nearing closing on The Grove, a newly built 320-unit Class A property in Grand Rapids. We're also thrilled to have gone under contract to sell Park Valley at a price that we believe will result in over a 30% IRR for our investors.
At Freedom Family Office, while we achieved our asset growth target for Q1, we fell short on the number of new families we advised. However, our pipeline of potential new clients looks promising, so we're optimistic that we'll catch up in Q2.
To create and deliver more content, I hosted three "Boardroom Discussions" this quarter, and I hope that those who attended found them valuable. I plan to continue hosting these discussions, so if you haven't joined one yet, keep an eye out for invitations to future talks.
This quarter, I had the privilege of being interviewed for three podcasts and leading three in-person training programs, including my first YPO talk (which has led to a second and working on a third), a 2-hour session for a local Vistage group, and a keynote session for The Wealthy Contractor.
I started hosting groups of entrepreneurs on The Ark, my boat in Miami, now that it's fully operational. My FIGI co-founder, Ace Chapman, brought his mastermind group onboard, and I also put together a group of EO and YPO real estate entrepreneurs. If you have a group that you think would enjoy cruising around Miami, let’s plan an outing!
I was excited to make a guest appearance at Cadsourcing's annual meeting to announce the launch of Tersus Services, our new construction and engineering services firm with a focus on utility construction. We're thrilled to have already been awarded a contract to install fiber to 50,000 new homes in the south, and the project is set to be completed by year-end.?

My theme this year is “Fun and Fitness” and I’m making progress on both fronts.?To that end, in addition to taking 3 Wednesdays a month to spend with Amanda, I added the goal of taking Fridays off.?It has been working better than expected, although I’ve had work related calls or meetings most weeks.?I know if I don’t get started, it won’t happen naturally, so I’m figuring out what gets in the way and coming up with a process for someone else on the team to address it.
On the fitness side I just completed an executive physical, repeating a battery of tests I took 4 years ago.?Results are not surprising – my weight is still my number one issue.?Despite attending my first medically supervised weight loss group when I was 9 and being well educated about nutrition and exercise ever since, I have yet to find the right solution to maintain a healthy weight.?
I just started taking semaglutide and am optimistic that medication may be the answer to my prayers.?I’ve always preferred natural remedies, but since my obesity is a precursor to having to take numerous drugs in the future, I’m hopeful this one medication can prevent me from taking more drugs later in life – be they statins, insulin or for hypertension.
January is Amanda’s birthday month, but the fanfare was muted this year by a variety of events.?I was so excited about Chat GPT that I asked it to compose poems for Amanda which I read to her, but I failed to get her a card!?That was a mistake I will only make once.?
I went a little overboard decorating for Valentine’s Day to make up for my birthday foibles.?Amanda and Eden continued their tradition of honoring the lives lost in Parkland by distributing chocolates around town with a note to “Spread Love and Kindness.”?Amanda leads by example, delivering groceries to homebound and low-income seniors, decorating hospital rooms for patients with long stays, serving as a reading pal to an elementary student, as well as mentoring a college student.
Jared hit a major milestone, becoming a licensed driver (shortly after his 16th birthday).?In addition to refereeing soccer, he created a 6-week soccer program for a homeschooled group.?$12/kid and 10-14 kids per week = lots of $ per hour.?I’m proud of him for a lot of reasons, but I smile when I see him working to make money in his new small business!?
Eden enjoyed a couple sleepovers with new friends from middle school.?It’s nice to see her continue to expand her social circle.?She reminds me of myself quite often.?We enjoyed organizing our 5th Daddy/Daughter sleepover for our EO chapter.?We had 15 dads and 22 daughters.?Nearly half the dads were there for the first time, too.?It was a memorable experience and I look forward to doing it again!
?
We ended the quarter with an action packed trip to La Fortuna, Costa Rica.?If we are friends on Facebook, then you can see Amanda’s great photo summary there.?We had a great guide, loved all our excursions, and everyone seemed to enjoy each other’s company.
I hope all is well by you and yours.??
With Love,
Noah
