Are you ready to BeReal?


Have you joined?BeReal?yet? I joined months back when I first found out about it but I hated that you had to show your face and I felt like at the time not enough of my friends where using it. I re-downloaded it this week since I have about 10 friends I care to see their “BeReal” shared and I honestly angle it to not show my face.

At the moment, I haven’t heard of any brands using the platform - but that doesn’t mean they aren’t and that also doesn’t mean Instagram hasn’t been testing a feature of their own similar to BeReal. In the end, I do foresee some brands using this (I am thinking more similarly to how brands use Snapchat organically), but in case this downs blow up I wanted to share my initial thoughts on how brands can utilize BeReal (or the Instagram version):


Influencers

  • Remember the days of Influencer Takeovers on Instagram? I am thinking the same approach here - let an influencer take over the account for a week or weekend. Seems simple enough right?
  • I am sure “BeReal” influencers will be emerging at some point as well


Founders

  • If you are a startup and a founder that works non stop or the employees are really about the lifestyle this could be a great opportunity to do takeovers or have one of these people run the account for a select amount of time.


Planned Content/Strategy

  • This isn’t one I recommend as much as I am not sure the algorithm will take it (if you are trying to be on the Discovery page - which I assume all brands would want to be) - but planning the content each day and just posting late if it doesn’t align with a time you are able to post.
  • Another thought here is to also utilize this as an exclusive channel to post discount codes or have the first X people to comment get a free package sent to them. With any new channel, you really want to focus on early adopters and treat them well as they will put other people onto not only the platform, but your brand.
