Are You Ready For the 2025 Golf Season?

Are You Ready For the 2025 Golf Season?

Hey, man, you look worried! Well if you haven’t taken the steps I set out in PART 1 of this article, you should be.

What are those steps you ask??

Have A Vision

Have A Vision

  • Know what you want to improve upon from last season.
  • If you don’t know where you want to go, any road will take you there. You have to know exactly, in a measurable way, how you want to make this season different than last season. Examples: Not, “I want to be more consistent.” What golfer doesn’t want that? Rather, “I want to get my handicap down 3 points.” Now that’s something we can measure. Or, “I want to hit the ball farther.” Rather, “I want to see a 10 mph increase in club head speed by the end of July.” Those are things that are definable, measurable, and time-bound.

Know Your Limitations

  • Anytime there's a physical limitation, it can affect your movement patterns for golf.
  • What can you do, and what can’t you do – physically, in relation to what it is you’d like to accomplish? The only way we know that is by screening or testing. The TPI Level 1 Screen measures: flexibility, mobility, stability, balance, core strength, and the ability to separate or disassociate one part of your body from another.
  • Essential qualities for consistency, power, injury reduction, and overall enjoyment of the game. If you struggle with these things, that’s where your training begins. At some point, we want to graduate to adding the physical qualities of strength, speed, conditioning, and power. These we test in the TPI Level 2 Screen.

Create A Plan

Create A Plan

  • The next part is the linchpin to your success this season and going forward. OK, you’ve got Step 1 down (you know what you’d like to change). Step 2, you know your physical limitations and how that’s affecting your body, your swing, and your ability to reach those new goals you’ve set out for yourself. Good! Now, what’s your plan? Step 3, you have to Create A Plan to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

  • And I can assure you that if you’re relying on social media to be your savior, or you’re taking random exercises from Instagram, Youtube, or the Golf Forever App, well, I wish you luck, because you may feel a little better as a result, simply because you’re challenging yourself physically in new ways, but you’re not addressing each physical restriction in order of importance relative to your goals because social media fitness gurus are not screening you and coaching you. I don’t know about you, but if I was really sick, I wouldn’t be looking on Instagram for a doctor or a surgeon.

Take my client Ken for example. Ken wanted to increase distance. One of the factors relevant to increased distance is to increase club head speed. As you can see from the whiteboard below, Ken’s golf pro was tracking his speed and distance.

What Gets Measured Improves!

“My longest drive used to be 240 yards, with an average of 225. I’m now averaging 245 and have hit several 270-yarders and one 280! Gonna be a fun season.” Thanks, Brett!”

That’s how you know if the training you are doing in the gym, the lessons you’re getting, and the practice time you’re putting in are paying off for you. At the end of the day, you have to Do The Work. Yes, I know it’s a dirty word. It’s easier to buy that special new driver made in Japan for lower handicap players, but is that going to make you a better golfer? Really?

Let’s Get Started…
