If You Are Not Reaching Your Goals For Your Business, Try This Instead

“Attention energizes. Intention transforms.  Om Mritham Namah.” is the mantra spoken by Deepak Chopra - 21 Days to Abundance Meditation Series. When I hear the mantra, ‘Om Mritham Namah,’ I internalize it as ‘oh, return to me,’ like words whispered to the sea when your heart and soul crave for love to return in the waves.

Intentions are dreams your soul, body, and mind crave. They are the navigational beacons that light a path to reality.

In today’s age, we’ve got many people telling us what our dreams should be, and for a while, our egos go along for the ride.  Life experiences and trauma can also diminish our ability to claim our dreams for fear that we are not enough. Or, as we’ve spoken before, we allow logic to shut down possibility.

Intentions are the things that bring you joy and add a layer of richness to your life.  They are so critical to your business success that you’ll only get more of what you’ve got without them. In small businesses, intentions are goals, mission and vision statements, client and employee value propositions, profitability, and standard operating procedures.

Intentions require clarity (what) and connection (why). Now before you take that to the nth level - relax. We overcomplicate things in this arena. The goal is to be clear enough to be grounded in where the business is headed yet open enough to allow flexibility in the journey. Intentions are often more simple than you make them.

It’s a delicate balance of holding your intentions firmly and loosely that can make or break your growth journey. (Curious about setting better intentions?  Check out this week’s video: How To Boost Your Ability to Scale Your Business Quickly.

Then there’s the concept of Attention.  Attention is about action, focus, and presence.

What you focus on matters. Where you focus, your actions flow.  And interestingly, what you focus on typically improves. Jim Rohn is famous for sharing that you can get a 10% improvement if you focus your efforts. We put this into practice for our clients because the power of posting your goals and progress in a very visual and public place of your work environment spurs natural and effortless improvement.

In business, the attention can be your metrics, key performance indicators, and how you recognize success. It is your choice and your habits that speak to your attention and intention.

If you’ve set the intention to create predictable profits to grow and scale without burnout, then work with more intention and attention.  For example, what would happen if every time you sat down at your desk, you asked yourself two questions:

  • What intention are we working towards?
  • What am I giving my attention today that moves us towards that intention?

Have an aspect of your business that is underperforming?  Apply the same type of questions:

  • What are my intentions for this part of my business?
  • How can it serve my team and me better?
  • How can we give more attention to making the intention reality?

Contrary to what you may think - just asking and answering the questions may be all that is needed.  We invite the right energy to the party by asking the right questions.  This is the step I see people overcomplicate - trying to control the situation to force a result. That urge to control is holding too tightly, which can strangle the best intention just as it starts to bloom.

In truth, you only need to know the next step; once you’ve made it, the next step will reveal itself.  If we can be your guide to bringing your intentions into reality for your business, reach out - we are happy to chat.
